Shocked Fear when your child screams!

I think every parent can tell when your child screams if it is for fun or fear. Last night my 8 year old was in the backyard playing and I was cleaning out my pond on the deck. My daughter screamed and I swear my heart stopped, we had bad rains and she was by a big puddle and I know that the cottonmouths had been around. I thought she had been bitten. My neighbors came running. The look on her face was horrible, she was trying to pull down her shorts off(which Madi would never do outside). I almost fainted with relief, a little green tree frog had jumped in the opening of her pant leg and stuck there.

The poor thing was so scared. (my daughter not the frog)I couldn't believe it, once I took it off she wanted to keep it for a pet! Yeeks!

Re: Fear when your child screams!

That is a cute story. Although I am sure your daughter did not think so LOL

When my kids scream like that I almost faint. Sometimes they will be outside playing together and will just start screaming at the top of their lungs. I run out only to find that they were doing it just for fun. Then I am mad because I told them that one day I will think they are kidding , and they may be really hurt then they will be stuck with no help. I could even understand the frog reason for screaming ( I hate them and would scream to) but sscream for nothing makes me angry.

Re: Fear when your child screams!

My kids let caterpillars crawl all over them, and would have loved the frog. Spiders, on the other hand.....totally freak them out.
I can relate to the snake thing...we have rattlers here, and since we had a dog bit by one, we're always looking out for them.

Re: Fear when your child screams!

LOL, what a sense of relief you must have felt!

My neice is a bit of a drama queen. When she was visiting her grandparents in Florida, she was out by the water and let out a horrific scream. Her grandfather nearly killed himself rushing out to her only to find out that she was just "practicing" her screaming. We haven't let her live that one down!

Re: Fear when your child screams!

My Mom got us to stop screaming for fun by telling us the story of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf!" She was very dramatic when she pretended to be the wolf eating the boy, and it made quite an impression! We sure didn't want that happening to us!

Re: Fear when your child screams!

How funny and cute. I would have screamed to if a tree frog got into my pants.
