Need to vent about some things...

I have about 30 minutes before I go to my full time job, at the gas station and I am DREADING it!!!

I absolutely HATE this job! I have never hated a job this much before in my life! We had a employee meeting with the boss last week and it was a nightmare. She was just yelling at us about how we are incompetent idiots that cannot do anything without her yelling at us. She said she was taking away our breaks (we tried to inform her that was against labor laws but she refused to listen) and then told us how much she despises all of us.

I had to tell myself quite repeatedly not to throw my uniform at her and walk out the door.

Then she asked for inuput on how to make this place a better place to work so I told her some examples that we do at Target that keep employee moral high. I love that job! Its great I actually enjoy going there every morning, even getting up at 3am!

So after I told her the difference she just looked at me and said "If you want warm fuzzies, theres the door, don't let it hit you on the way out."

I was so furious! Then I stated the OBVIOUS fact that people who enjoy their job usually do better at it. She then replied, "You are here for a paycheck, nothing more. I refuse to pat you all on the back and give out warm fuzzies. If you don't like it, leave."

Again, had to force myself not to walk out the door.

I absolutely hate it there! A friend of mine is the Asst Manager and has been telling me that my boss is trying to get me to quit. She has tried to fire me before but with no evidence to back her claims up. Well this friend told me the other night that things are about to get much much worse. I am not sure I can handle any worse!

We have lost so many good workers because of the way she treats the employees. Now we just have idiots who don't know how to do their job and you need to babysit them the entire time. I can't get any of my work done on the side because I always have to sit at the register with them.

I am so at the point that I am ready to walk out. And its like I don't even care.

Then in my personal life, my depression still has been affecting me quite a bit. Now I just found out that a dear friend of mine, married and has 3 little ones, under the age of 6, just was diagnosed with cancer. The doctor said things do not look good at all. He has 25 spots in his liver and they cannot find the orginating place where it all started. All I could do was cry when I heard. Their baby is only 3 months old.

I can't imagine an employer talking like that I guess. And if she's taking away your breaks turn her in. It is against the law if you work for so many hours you have to have a break so I guess that's why I can't imagine her speaking like that.

Uummmmm HELLO????? can you say "workplace harassment"? I'd turn her in to the Department of Labor. She MUST have a manager/owner or somebody above her, write an anonymous letter to them...or if you're not afraid of retribution, sign your name. She is degrading you all. I wonder how it would look if you turned in a workers comp claim for mental health? This job is obviously affecting your mental health status.

Geez! Why don't you quit there and go to Target full time? Sounds like your quality of life would be a lot better.

Can't your Asst. Manager friend help ya out? I mean, I would think her pretty much admitting to wanting to get you to quit would be something that could be used.

That sounds horrible, couldn't you get another job at another gas station, one where they treated you with some respect? She sounds like an absolutely horrible person.

I would love to go to Target full time, but they are in a reshuffling time right now with hours. They are cutting most of the full timers hours down to less than 32 and only hiring part time. I am trying to get more hours there but its not working out as of yet.

Today I was supposed to work from 11 to 7. But when I got there she told me some things were changing and then told me that the Kitchen Manager had just been fired. Now this lady was the hardest working person there, always working overtime, always coming in when she wasn't scheduled. She did all the hiring and scheduling and ordering for that entire dept herself. Today they just said "see ya!" with no warning!

Then she looked at me when I was ringing up customers and said "You don't look so good." I said what do you mean and she said you look and sound sick. I said I wasn't, but she just kept saying how awful I looked and that she couldn't afford to get sick right now. She then sent me home! And I kept saying I was fine. So I only worked 2 hours there today. Part of me is pissed but the other is pretty happy I am out of there. I just hate it!

I don't know about Minnesota but in the State of Arkansas they only have to give you a break after you have been there 10 hours I know this because I called the Labor board when my son was 16 and the place where he worked wouldn't give him a break after 4 hours. I thought it would at least matter that he was a minor but it didn't.

I made a pretty tough decision today. I am giving my 2 week notice tomorrow

I thought you said you loved Target? Now you are quitting? Or is that the gas station job you are referring too?

Apply for the Kitchen Mgr. job at Target. I would report your manager at the gas station to your corporate HR dept. There has to be a number for them in your employee handbook, or posted somewhere. You can report her anonymously. Hang in there. I wish you didn't have to give your notice before you have something else lined up. I'm sure you will find something else. Retail is always hiring.

Yeah well join the crowd of people who wish I had something else lined up first... including me! But it has boiled down to this: My life or my job... which would you pick?

Well considering your situation financially, I certainly would not be quitting a job right now that I could not afford to quit. I would "buck up" and just do my job until I found something better.

What does your mother have to say about all of this...doesn't she work there too?

Do you understand what I am trying to say? I come home from work at the gas station nearly every day extremely depressed and crying.

Last night I was starting to take matters into my own hands and had taken out all the pills I had in the bathroom and emptying them into a glass to swallow!

At what point is "bucking up" not an option?!!

oh and my mother said she was relieved that I had finally decided that. She sees how this is affecting me.
