Anyone have any ideas for getting the word out about a new (very different) magazine?

My brother graduated from CCAD last year. While he was there, he met a group of people who published a newspaper and he got a job working with them. Well, since graduation, they've moved from Columbus to Milwaukee and the newspaper has morphed into a magazine.
They just got their first issue back from the printers and need to sell 400 of them to break even. My brother sent me a couple and asked me to help spread the word when I'm "web-surfing"...problem is, this magazine isn't for just anybody. I don't have any idea where or how I could help spread the word.
I definitely don't want to spam anybody, and I'm sure there is probably an audience for the magazine, but what do I do????? I really want to help, because my brother is a free-lance [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now], just starting out, so this success of the magazine would help him out, too.

Any suggestions??????

Hmmm....yes, that magazine isn't for everyone. I like the title though.

From what I remember from my marketing classes, you've got to find the target audience. I'd almost suggest giving the magazine away with a little postcard inside about how to subscribe....most people won't buy a magazine if they don't know what is inside.

All else fails...do like "The Apprentice" TV show...hire some students to sell them and give them a $$ prize for who sells the most, etc.

Couldn't they post something on the bulletin boards at local colleges, to get the students interested in buying it? Run it by the college first to see if that's OK.
