Re: does anyone know of a good hair style site?

Wanna remind us how long your hair is now?? What length are you wanting to go? I'll tell ya something...I TOTALLY regret having "the ears cut out" all of these years because it has been a S-L-O-W process allowing them to grow out...just a warning

Re: does anyone know of a good hair style site?

I have had basically the same cut for 13 years. Sometimes it is short and then I let it grow longer until I feel like getting a haircut again. No particular time frame in between cuts. ANYWAY, the last time I went in to get it cut I picked out a picture in one of their books and decided to go for it. I watched as they chopped and I wasn't worried, but in the end my hair looked nothing like the picture! I tried doing different things with it while really wanting to do NOTHING with it. People say they like it, but to tell you the truth I can't even put my finger on what the style is exactly. It looks a little different every day. hmmm I guess I don't like it because I can't figure it out. LOL I did want to get it cut around my ears, but Mouse you have scared me on that issue. I am ready for a new picture book, too. lol

Re: does anyone know of a good hair style site?

Its around the top of my waist. I have a friend who is dying of cancer. I can't fix this for her, but I want her to know how much I love her, by donating my hair. She has had it about 1 1/2 yrs, and I have thought of doing it for that time, but honestly I was a little selfish, because I loved my hair. But its all good timing now, I feel ready to do it, and I hope it can show her how much of an encouragement she is to me.

So I have to cut 10" off, it will be around the tops of my shoulders (maybe shorter). I want to get a sexy cut!!!!! My husband actually loves short hair (whats wrong with him??) so I want to blow his socks off. I was thinking of coloring it too, with some chunky highlights. I haven't done that before either!

Re: does anyone know of a good hair style site?

What a thoughtful act Corrina.

After I got a trim (which meant it was probably 2" long)...LOL...I always felt SASSY. Seriously, it made me more of a smart-mouth..LOL! Seems a cut does the same to my boys

Kenny always liked my short-do, but I think we're both ready for a little change..LOL!
I love the chunk highlights..my ex husband's wife got hers done, but I'm not too keen on how it looks after it has grown out some. She doesn't color her hair anyways AND it's very dark naturally so with her very light highlights it's quite obvious....that would drive me batty and I'm already my worst critic...LOL!

I love the look that's messy, butcha know it took 30 minutes to do..LOL!

Another Locks for Love!!!

I went to a site where you could upload your picture and then put different styles on yourself when my daughter cut hers. It's like ivillage.com or something like that.

"Knowing your facial shape is the key to finding your perfect hairstyle! Jellybean helps you define your face shape, and identify the hair styles that will work best for you.

TO FIND YOUR FACE SHAPE: 1. Pull hair back and secure so hair is totally off face.
2. Stand about one foot back from a mirror and look straight into it. Or, use a picture of yourself facing straight into the camera with your hairline showing.
3. Outline your face with lipstick on the mirror, on transparent paper or on the photo itself.
4. Now look at your face shape in the mirror or the photo. At first there may appear to be more than one shape. Though your face may not be an exact match of any single shape, it will more closely resemble one shape over all other shapes. Pick the shape most closely resembling your own (find the different shapes below) and read the paragraph for that shape to find your best hairstyles.

OVAL SHAPED FACE
(even proportions; length is about one and a half times width)
Oval is considered by many to be the loveliest and most versatile face shape since nearly every hair style looks great on this face. Hair pulled back shows off the oval face the most. People with an oval face shape can get away with a cropped short pixie cut, so go for it if you love short hair! In long styles, a great classic look is a center or side part with hair touching shoulders. Short-layered looks with longer curls in front and a cropped back (at the nape of the neck) focus on the beauty of the oval face.

ROUND SHAPED FACE
(round hairline and chin line; wide face; usually round cheeks)
If you have a round face shape, the goal with styling hair is to slim the face. Hair below the chin line should be worn with a face-lengthening center part. For hair above the chin line, wear an off-center part to "interrupt" the roundness. Creating volume at the top of your head and keeping your forehead bare will also slim the face. It's best to avoid short and sleeked-back hairstyles. In shorter styles, you are best seen with hair brushed away from the face, building extra volume at the top of head to narrow the roundness of your features. Though bangs shorten the face and straight-falling bangs or wisps should be avoided, you can wear curly, tousled side bangs. Wear longer styles closer to the face to give length. Decrease the volume at the sides and ear area. An ideal length for your hair is beyond the chin or just above it. A side part works well. Keeping hair off the face at the cheek area is also recommended.

SQUARE FACE
(straight hairline; angular jaw; wide face)
Your hairstyle should work to soften the sharp angle of your jawline and minimize a squared-off brow look. Hairstyles that emphasize the cheekbones mid-line of the face are most flattering, so short layers (cut into longer hair) that swing foreward onto cheekbones will look great. Bangs and waves at the temple also soften the square of your face. Hair length is best about one inch below the chin, or extending to shoulder length, to reduce and soften the squareness of your jaw. Hair worn on the forehead is always perfect for you, as long as it is wispy or fringed. Never wear straight bangs. Hair turned under at the bottom also will narrow the width of the jaw. Styles in loose curls and waves add extra dimension to the square face in a good way. Styles that round out your hair can decrease the appearance of a square face shape, so adding curl, angled or wispy bangs, and a few wisps on the cheek area will all help. A cut that allows for some height is also a good idea. Wear a side part as opposed to a center part.

TRIANGLE SHAPED FACE
(wide chin; narrow forehead)
When choosing a style for this face shape, you should focus on a look that narrows the chin and widens the forehead to balance face proportions. Wear your hair wide and full at the top of the head and temples, brushed away from the face and up toward the ears to widen forehead. From the ear, angle hair forward toward the chin to soften and narrow a strong jaw. (Hair clipped up in barettes that falls so it swings forward onto face will look terrific). Do not wear styles that are full at the jawline however. Your best hair length: chin length or longer. Decrease volume at the top of head and at the sides, especially around the ear areas. Adding curl and fullness to the chin area and just above the temples can help round out your look.

HEART SHAPED FACE
(an upside down triangle face; narrow jawline; wider at eye line)
If this is your face shape, you'll want a hairstyle that gives the illusion of a narrower forehead and fuller jaw line. If you want bangs, wear them full and curly if possible. Wear a side part with soft three-quarter bangs swept over one side to balance your forehead width. Any styles you wear should be fuller at the top than at the jaw line. Upswept at the sides and off the forehead is a flirty look for you that plays up your best features. A medium length to mid-neck is your best length. Fullness at the bottom, with hair directed forward onto the cheeks gives you the appearance of a wider chin. Curls or loose waves, shaped from the ears down, also add fullness to the chin area. Decrease volume at the top of head and at the sides. Wisps on the jaw area or wavy bangs can help give a wider, rounder appearance that evens out face. Avoid styles that cling closely to your face, mirroring the heart shape.

OBLONG FACE
(long and thin face with rounded chin and jawline; chin might appear pointed
Hairstyles for this face shape should add width and fullness to the sides of the face and around the eyes, cheekbones and ears. This shape benefits from a low side part, with a sweep of hair brushed across the forehead and secured with a cute barrette, jeweled comb or butterfly clip. Widen face and reduce its longish look with a side part so the hair flows all to one side. Asymmetric haircuts will look great on your face shape. Straight-falling bangs or bangs blended with the sides of your hair shorten the overall face length too. Your best hair length reaches to the middle of the neck. Favor volume with curly or wavy styles, giving you the illusion of balanced width.

Re: does anyone know of a good hair style site?

You know you're going to have to post a pic of either the hairstyle you choose, or a pic of you with your new do!!

I agree with the "not cutting it over your ears". I had a cut like that for many years, and it was awful growing it out. The hair would stand out and look like wings. Now, I have a kind of shoulder length bob....with some long layers so it slightly feathers back on the sides. Good luck with your choice!

Re: does anyone know of a good hair style site?

thanks for the site! I am checking it out now. I had a picture someplace on this site that showed how long my hair is now, kind of a bright dishwater blonde. I haven't seen any done in the color I wanted to do it in, so maybe its a sign that its too goofy! I was thinking of doing some chunky light highlights, and one or two dark chunky "highlights" for drama. Has anyone seen this? Where the heck did I get this idea from?

Christins Agulierra (sp) or Kelly Clarkson??? They both have/had chunky highlights.

My sister and niece did locks of love a couple years back. They went to a shop where they give you a free cut/style when you donate.

You're not kidding when you said you were changing, short hair huh? My DH doesn't care whether mine is short or long. You look so good with the long hair too. It's a nice thing you are doing though 'cause of your friend.

Well, being a short-haired person, I think you'll love it! And my husband is as weird as yours. LOL! He likes short hair better, too.

I also agree with Paula. When I've gotten a fresh short cut, I'm sassier, too!

I downloaded the free version last night, you CAN'T upload your own photo using the free version. I went through the different cuts/styles and I think I even found what I am working toward. It's sorta "rough" (like "cartoon-ish" drawing)...not a lot of bells and whistles. You can save the styles you have chosen and even print them. You'll want to change the haircolor more toward your own because some of the style I really liked when the "model's" hair was blonde, but changed my mind when I changed it to a brown.

That's always such a problem for me... I see a style I like and I need to have the face to go with it for it to look like that!! LOL!
