Have you ever been lied to online?

Not that I'm aware of, but then, I don't use actual chat rooms. I'm sure alot of that goes on there.

I have but not by someone who was lying about their age. Several years ago, I belonged to a bulletin board of moms that all had kids the same age as I did. Most of us were pretty close (as close as you can be without ever meeting a person face-to-face) and had been talking since we were pregnant. Once day, I went to the board and saw a post that was supposed to from a friend of this mom and she said that the mom had killed herself the night before. We were all in shock and of course very sad. It turns out that this woman who we had been talking with for about two years had a mental illness and it was in fact her that posted about her own death. Needless to say we were all extremely angry and we created a private board at a different site to make sure she could not join us again. Sometimes I wonder what happened to her and her family.

I'm sure we all have been lied to at one time or another...but what hurts is when you build up a community such as DOD and someone in there turns a good one on ya!

I know who you are talking about, wasn't her name Daisy, something like that?

When people do things about their own death, it makes me feel very sad. At first I am angry, but afterwards I think of how much hurt and confusion, and unloved that person must feel to do something like that. To me its like a desperate attempt at getting love and appreciation. Its still wrong, and they need help,there are great resources to get that help, and relief from feelings like that.

I feel a lot of compassion for Daizy Mae. I hope she is doing ok now. It bothers me to know how unhappy people can be.

I think most people are basically honest online but who really knows. Ya gotta take it all with a grain of salt I guess.

I hope that DaizyMae/MDelorisR got the help she needed. I find it sad that people live their lives like that. I was here when that was all going on, but tried to stay out of it all. I kinda knew all along something was up with her, but I trust people online until they really give me a reason not to.

I used to be big in chat, and stayed in the same chat room for years. There were so many lies floating around in there, I lost count.

Also belonged to a Mom's board since I was pregnant with my first son. Had lies in there too, including a fake death. (One of the members there was awesome at investigating these things - and now has uncovered 2 more fake deaths in other groups on that same board).

People must be very miserable and lonely when they need to lie about things for attention.

Life has enought tragedies, no need to make them up.
