cold medicine- a popular drug for kids?

Right now on t.v. Dateline is talking about it. Kids are overdosing on it and getting hallucenations and some are dying from it. Its the "new drug" because they can hide it easier.

I have heard that some cough medicine is used as an ingredient or cooked to make a different drug. Was it crystal meth or CAT or something like that? I must admit, everything I know about drugs is what I read or see in the movies.

Never heard of CAT.
I am like you, unless its on t.v. I don't know. I avoid it at all costs, even at school. Because of family history, I feel like the less I know, the better off I am.

Just regular over the counter cough medicine? I got some today, the prescription kind, and there is alcohol in it. That ought to put me to sleep.

Taking an ounce of Nyquil is like taking a shot. It's 25% alcohol... that is 50 proof!

The stuff used for Meth is capsules. I think it is like sudafed. I know several of the pharamacys you have to ask as it is now behind the counter. I am sure cough syrup could easily be used for highs.

They mentioned robitussin. Never talked about sudafed or nyquil.

Heck, that is an oldie. Don't you remember as a kid somebody drinking and taking Contacts? Codeine cough syrup has been abused for years too.

As for the meth..........
they will use ANYTHING. Bug spray even. They would rob the Shipyard garbage for ANY chemical they could find where I lived in WA.

When my mom was young they thought you could get high taking an aspirin with Coke. She tried it.

I guess the thing is people will always look for an escape and nothing is "off limits" to them. We don't need to make everything prescription, we need to get to the root of what makes so many feel the need to escape instead of cope.

They never said anything about making it a prescription. It was more about informing parents about this.
