Ok, so the doctor was wrong

I finally got in to see my regular doctor today, he said I never should have been on the antibiotics because what I have is a virus. I knew that other doctor didn't have a clue what he was talking about, a sinus infection? He must be joking. I don't think so. What makes me mad is that I had to take more time off from work to go to the doctor AGAIN, to be diagnosed correctly this time, so I'm 8 days behind in my treatment now. He has me on Prednisone, not exactly sure what that is, but he said it will get rid of it for me, and I have to take special prescription cough medicine, all this for the next 8 days, then I'll be back to my happy self again, I can't wait.

Hope your doc told you some of the side effects! Usually for a virus you just treat the symptoms!(fever,cough, sore throat)

The most commonly encountered side effects are:

Sodium retention
Increased appetite
Increased fat deposits
Increased acid in your stomach
Increased sweating, especially at night
Increased hair growth
Acne on the face, back, and chest
Bone and muscle problems
Growth problems in children
Eye problems
Increased sugar in the blood
Increased sensitivity to the sun
Delayed wound healing
Decreased ability to fight infection
Thrush (Candida) growth in the mouth

All from the Prednisone? Hair growth where? Good it's only for the next 8 days. I hate taking meds unless I absolutely have to. I just want to feel healthy again. While I was in the doctor's office today, I told the doctor I wanted to get rid of this laryngitis, he said, "Why, I like the way you sound, it sounds so sexy". He's a real trip, he's funny.

prednisone is a steriod...

i took it when i had mono...helps symptoms such as that.

you shouldnt have side effects like that for only a short time really. my friends has taken it for year (she has colitis) and her face is really swollen and it made her chubbier.

kind of an evil drug long term.

I have taken predinsone several times, for long periods of time for colitis (tummy problem) it's oral Cortisone. The side effects are actually pretty uncommon I was told, and I never really had any.

You can get and upset stomach, headache, vomiting etc. Those side effects that most drugs seemt to give you now days.

The side effects to watch for (call your doctor if you have these!) are
skin rash
swollen face, lower legs, or ankles
vision problems
cold or infection that lasts a long time
muscle weakness
black or tarry stool

I hope I don't get any of those reactions from it. Swollen face? I hope not. Weight gain, ugh. I just lost 10 lbs, wouldn't want to get chubbier.

Since you won't be taking it for a very long period of time you probably won't get any side effects, a lot of people take this medicine for months at a time (like I had to) so that is where the more major side effects can come into play.
