Question DVD question?

I am not to wise when it comes to buying DVD's I am not sure why everyone I come across says Wide Screen. I have been looking to buy Forrest Gump DVD the collectors one and everytime I find one it is wide screen. Now I may just be stupid but I do not think I want the wide screen. I think I need full screen. Isnt the wide screen the one where you have the black section at the top and bottom of the screen. That really drives me nuts.

Ok so tell me does it really make a difference or am I just to used to VHS.

Re: DVD question?

Yes, wide screen is the one with the black on the top and bottom. You get to see it exactly as it would be on a movie screen. I love Forrest Gump!

Re: DVD question?

I prefer full-screen too. I could be wrong, but I think some movies only come in wide-screen.

I like the ones that give you the option - that have both on the same DVD.

Wide-screen drives me bonkers because you're only watching 1/3 of your television screen.

Re: DVD question?

We always buy widescreen movies, as I really prefer they way they appear, and you actually get to see more of what's in the frame (it is not cut out by standard screen)

As for forest gump, I just bought it recently, we own well over 400 DVDs and seeing as how it's my favorite movie, I couldn't figure out why I didn't own it yet!

After looking at ebay (I hate shipping costs!) I got it at deeep discount dvds, when it was $8.56 with free shipping.

They now have it for $13.46 and the shipping on it is free, so its still a great deal, especially since the shipping is free.

Re: DVD question?

I don't know about this. I bought the Collectors Edition of Forrest Gump and never noticed whether it was wide screen or not. Almost all of my DVDs have the widescreen and formatted versions on the disc for you to choose. I just noticed that Forrest Gump does not. It is wide screen only! I dont mind though as on my television, the bars are very thin and barely noticable.
God Bless!!

I was just going to say that.

When I first started buying DVDs, the widescreen version bothered me, too. Now I prefer to buy widescreen, because I think one day not too far off, all TVs will be widescreen.

My sitter just got a big wide-screen TV and regular TV shows look horrible on it! Everything is distorted and streched out. It was really odd - the news was on and it looked like the newscasters all had spaces between their front teeth!

I'd stay away from wide-screen TV's until everythig it made to fit them.

But I think that's not too far off, either. One has to precede the other.

Re: DVD question?

we have a widescreen TV, and it has two formats. So you turn it to one format when you are watching TV so it doesn't have the fishbowl affect. Then it automatically switches to the other format for DVD's. Its my husbands prize.
