Do you think that if a teen has an early curfew that they won't be having sex?

Back when I was dating it didn't matter to me whether my curfew was midnight, 'cause my BF and I would find ways to do what we wanted in the afternoon, in secluded places, I'm not talking total sex here, just being intimate in other ways, so I don't think it matters if you have a teen and give them a curfew. What do you think? Aren't teens going to find ways to do what they want when they want?

I don't think curfews have anything to do with it. If they want to do it, they will find a way!

I agree totally. Curfews do not stop anything if a teen wants to do something they are not supposed to .
Here where I live the Parish has a set curfew and they do enforce it when they can catch the kids out after the curfew time. But the kids even find ways around that to.

Our kids always had a curfew, and no, it wasn't to stop them from having sex. We just saw no reason for them NOT to have a curfew, since there were plenty of hours in the evening for them to do whatever they had planned.

If left to determine when they came in on their own, it would have been 3 or 4 in the morning, and there's no reason for that. First of all, it's disrespectful to the parents, since most parents don't rest until the 'chickies are home safe in the nest' for the night, and secondly, getting in that late only makes them grumpy the next morning, and who wants to put up with that?

No, we did not let our kids sleep till noon. The only exception was after prom, when they were allowed to stay out later.

To answer your question, though, no I don't think having a curfew prevents them from having sex. If they want to do it, they'll find a way.

You know Pip, thanx for posting that about the curfews, that's just what I was thinking, suppose a parent extends their child's curfew by just another hour or two, they could be in a fatal accident, not because of the way they drive, but because of the other drunk drivers on the roads at those hours.

Well, 3tbear, in my opinion, there are SO many good reasons to have curfews for your kids.

They bring up that 'I'll be 18' thing, too, on that website. My kids knew that did NOT mean anything special in our house, as long as we were financially responsible for them. Kara and Jenna both only tried that one time, and they learned really fast that was NOT the way to go about getting what they wanted. So many kids use that, but they really only want to pick and choose how to use it to their advantage. They rarely want total responsibility for themselves.

My kids all have curfews too, for sure. But not for the purpose of preventing sexual activity. It's about getting enough sleep for school the next day.

I think Knowing who your child hangs with and where they are going will help more in preventing it than a curfew.

Oprah has had many good shows on teen sex, and the majority of the teens are having sex after school while their parents are still at work.

I agree that curfew is a matter of getting enough sleep and safety.

I always worked when my kids were living here, from just a few months after they were born, until they left home, and though I wished I could have been home when they were pre-schoolers, I REALLY felt this way when they were teens. Many times I said during those years that I thought it was more important to be home during the teen years than when they were babies!

I really wish I could have been home for all of it.

Just like the rest of you, I don't think curfews necessarily stop teens from having sex or other deeds they shouldn't be doing. I do think that curfew is important for other reasons. I had a curfew and so will my children when they get old enough.
