Windows help!

Okay, here is a question I hope one of you computer experts can help me with:
MY DH just upgraded my computer, and I now have Windows 2000 instead of Windows 98. In 98, while on Internet Explorer, if a box came up where I had to fill-in info. I had filled in before (such as address, name, previous searches), the ones I had done before would pop-up in a box below the field. That way you didn't have to type them in again if they were used before. This is not happening now. I don't know if it is because of Windows 2000 or what. I'm not even sure what to call it so I can't look thru the help menus for it. DH says there is probably a place to turn that on and off but he doesn't use it so doesn't know how. Anyone here know?

Re: Windows help!

Go to TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > CONTENT

There, you can activate the AutoComplete function under Personal Information.

I have Windows XP, but I could do this when I had previous Windows versions, too.

Let me know if this works for you!

Re: Windows help!

Thanks for your help Pip! Unfortunately, I did what you said and that does not seem to be working (altho it sounds like it should!) I waited this long to reply to try a couple sites that I frequent just to see if it "popped up (under)" after I typed it once before but it didn't. Very strange. Any other ideas?

Re: Windows help!

Nothing, other than to go back into Tools and check to make sure Web addresses, Forms, and User names and passwords on Forms are all checked (or whichever ones you want to be checked, are checked).

I know sometimes I've changed things and when I go back in and check them to make sure they are the way I left them, they AREN'T! Remember to click Apply if that's available, before exiting.

Also, maybe try a restart? (If you haven't done that already)

Sorry I don't have any other suggestions right now!

Re: Windows help!

Depending on the sites you use too though, those boxes don't always pop up. But I can see why you'd want them too! It makes it so easy!!

Re: Windows help!

Could you install Roboform? It's a pleasure using this software. I've used it for years now and it's become the standard for form filling.

Roboform is great for forms, but AutoComplete works so well for any type of field.

Re: Windows help!

Hey! It's working now. Maybe it was because I hadn't restarted. I don't know.

I've never used Roboform because I use Gator. Is Roboform better because it doesn't have the pop-ups and the spyware? Maybe I should switch.

Anyway, thanks again for showing me where to go to fix this!

Re: Windows help!

Yes, Roboform is better, for the exact reason you stated.

Glad things are working for you now!
