ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

I'm considering buying a mattress topper made of the memory foam. Not the TempurPedic, because it's SO expensive, but this one:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

We have an airbed, and a down-filled topper on top of it. The down topper is nice, but after a couple of nights' sleep, the down shifts so much that it gets flat in areas and you have to fluff it up again. I'm thinking this would go back to normal once you get up in the morning, then when you get back in at night, it continually adjusts to your body.

Does anyone use anything like this on their bed? I know that TempurPedic makes mattresses, but I don't think you can compare a topper to a whole mattress of it, so I'm asking about the toppers specifically.

What do you think?

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

I only have the tempur pedic contour pillow. At first I hated it and now I can't sleep without it (or at least I feel that way). I'm looking for a mattress topper with the memory foam and like you say, they are very expensive.
What I do know: The thickness you should get depends on what position you sleep in. You get what you pay for. The cheaper ones are usually one thickness and the "memory" fails after a while because the foam weakens and doesn't support as well. It seems to me that the more expensive ones will be cheaper in the long run.
Please let us know what you decide on and how you like it.

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

Pip, I just got a mattress topper from Costco online about 3 weeks ago. I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay that amount of money but in the end, I did! And I love it!! It took me a couple of nights to get used to it but now I'm off to La La Land as soon as I hit the pillow!! I bought the NovaForm Elite "Memory Foam" Mattress Topper. It comes with a terry velour washable cover. Just keep in mind that this topper is two inches thick and you might have to buy new sheets if they are presently snug on your mattress. I've seen these online at Linens N Things and also Bed Bath and Beyond. If you have these stores locally, you might be able to use their 20% off coupons that are always floating around.

One thing that I was really surprised with, was that the mattress topper was very heavy. I'm thinking about getting the pillow next.

Hope this helps with my 2 cents!!

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

Pip, I had one on my bed.I liked it but my husband did not as it was harder turning over on it for him. They are very heavy.Think of it as huge dense cushion you sink into, I made the mistake of trying a matteress in the store. My husband loves to tease me about my imprint in the bed since I had decided to try it face down.Think of their ads on the telly where you see the imprint of the hand for a bit before the foam raises back to flat.I loved it before my youngest had an accident on it, warning they are hard to clean so if you have small children protect it from them.ALSO for their safety do not let them sleep on it!

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

What I've found is:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now], with terry cover, for $79.99 with the 20% off coupon at Linens 'n Things, but it's only 1½" thick. $10.90 for shipping, plus 7½% tax.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] at Linensource.com, with fiberfill cover, for $169.99. It doesn't say how thick the memory foam is. $18.00 for shipping, plus possible extra weight surcharge.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] at Brylane Home, with terry cover, 2" thick, for $69.99 with $10 off coupon. $18.99 shipping.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] at Memory Foam Factory, for just the 2" thick foam, for $129.95 shipped, and if you're a student, you get a free contour pillow with your order. I have a daughter that's a full-time college student. This one specifies that it is 4 lbs. density. (Since we would probably put this under our regular mattress pad anyway, a cover isn't important.)

Still looking...........

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

Check e-bay. I have been looking there very often and thats where I learned about the density.
Here is the info on density:
Which topper thickness should be used:

Side and back sleepers would benefit from a 3”or 4”pad
Back sleepers will benefit from a 3”or 4”pad
Stomach sleepers should not use more than a 2”pad

This comes from [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

That makes sense, cujo, but then there's also the density (as in pounds per cubic inch).

Ohhhhhh, so confusing!!

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

Thats why I'm taking so much time to buy one. I just don't know whats right for me. Maybe going to a local store that sells the tempur pedic would help. You could ask questions as a "potential" customer. When I bought my pillow I asked for the salesperson at Brookstone that was most experienced with that line and it was a girl that was my size (I was lucky for once) and I was able to buy that day.

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] 3" foam topper, 3.3 lb. density, for $120.00 shipped. 2" is $88.33.

They also have [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] 5 lb. density, 2" topper for $155.00 shipped. You can also get this in 3" thickness for $220.00 shipped.

I have gone to a store that sells the TempurPedic, in fact, it's where we bought our airbed. I wasn't any less confused. LOL.

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

And another country heard from..........

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] has three different densities and thicknesses, ranging in price from $89.99 (3.3 lb., 2" thick) to $169.99 (5.3 lb., 4" thick), with $28.00 shipping.

Ooooh, and the first I've seen a recommendation on what size and density to get:

Quote:
If you want to know which one is right for you we have a few recommendations.

We usually recommend that if the person using the memory foam mattress pad weighs under 200lbs they should get a 2" memory foam mattress pad, if they weigh over 200 we recommend a 3"memory foam mattress pad. The 4.3lb density is softer and more supple while the 5.3lb density is firmer. The density refers to the amount that 1 cubic foot of the memory foam weighs, the entire memory foam mattress pad weighs much more. It's a personal preference really whether you want a softer or firmer sleeping surface. I personally prefer the 4.3lb 2" memory foam mattress pad and I weigh 200lbs. We do not recommend getting a 4" memory foam mattress pad unless the person using it weighs over 275lbs. We have found through personal and professional experience that the weight ranges that we refer to work really well with the type of pad thickness you are thinking of getting. Why spend the extra money if you don't need to.

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

Thanks for all the info--my husband's been nagging me to get one of these.

I was pretty skeptical til I read this info. I still need to be convinced, though.

Has anyone here had one for long? A good (regular) mattress lasts for 10 years. How long does a foam topper or mattress? I can't imagine them lasting long.

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

Well, many of them come with warranties. I know the Sensus has a 10-year warranty.

Memory Foam has this warranty: The mattress pads come with a 6 year warranty directly from Cloud9 Bedding! These mattress pads are guarateed to retain a minimum of 85% of it's original loft for a period of 6 years, covering the average life of a mattress pad.

Novaform's warranty is for 5 years.

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

Thanks.
This is great, though, because I'm willing to consider getting a topper--getting a new super-expensive mattress when our current one is still pretty new was too much for me. But a topper is feasible. I never would have thought of that, so thanks, I've found a compromise!

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

These sound great, but wouldn't they get awfully hot during the summer? It sounds as if you just sink down into the foam and that sort of surrounds you. Any experienced users who can tell us about this?

Re: ThermoPedic, Memory Foam........does anyone use this?

Well, at 2" or 3", it's doubtful you'll sink THAT low, but I plan to put mine between my mattress top and the mattress pad (just a standard mattress pad, and that will hold it in place, too).

Good thinking, though!
