Curves for Women

Just wondering if any of you have ever been a member of "Curves for Women"(it's the fitness center for women only). I've just lost about 15 pounds and everything is a little(lot) saggy, so I need to do something. Still have a few more pounds to go, but thought i should start doing something to firm things up now. I know several people who have lost inches at Curves, and they thought it was neat. Not really sure what Curves is all about and thought some of you could fill me in.

Re: Curves for Women

Some ladies at work go there, from what I have heard from them, they have different exercise machines all around the room, and you go on one then onto the next machine while waiting in back of someone to use the next machine and so on. I heard it costs around $300.00 for a year.

Yep! I love it. You alternate between machines, and walking, jogging in place. The music tells you when to switch stations.

My mom goes there and loves it too.

Re: Curves for Women

Supposed to be a great 30 minute workout.

They have two in the area near me. I prefer to do my own thing at the gym...treadmill, stairmaster and bike so it isn't for me but if you want structure than it sounds like a good option.

Re: Curves for Women

I have been seriously contemplating joining one of the Curves around here. I have lost 25 pounds and would definitely like to start firming up.

That sounds really interesting. The only thing that stops me is that I always imagine being surrounded by a bunch of thin women or something like that. I know it should not matter but it does.

I know what you mean when we went to the health club I felt like I was the only overweight person there.

Re: Curves for Women

Generally with gyms, everyone pays a different rate. (Kinda like airline tickets!) Remember to negotiate! Sign up fees are variable too.

Someone I know got a few dollars off their membership each month because they were walking in a breast cancer walk.

When I was working I saw a sign at work saying that employees of my workplace got a special deal to sign up at the local gym. I was, of course, already a member and paying more than that so I called up the main office and they matched the rate.

Miriama- for what it is worth I have been a member of a women's only gym and now a co-ed gym. I really liked the women's only gym because of the great location (this is when I lived in NC) and women don't really check each other out as much as the men check the women out at the co-ed gym I belong to now. Plus, you don't have to worry about wearing makeup or looking cute. If there was a women's only gym nearby where I live now in MD I'd join in a minute.
