Wow! I've always loved reading about the Amish, and I desperately want to visit Lancaster County someday. But this website was more informative than anything I've ever read! And some of the links were incredible!

Check out this gorgeous quilt; I'm drooling!

Re: This is fascinating, everything you wanted to know about the lives of the Amish

Ouuu, that is a really pretty quilt. I know, that web-site is so awesome, the information on it is more than I could have hoped for, very informative. I'd always wondered how they lived, married etc. When I was a kid my mom and dad took my sister and me to Lancaster county PA. I remember we got lost, we were somewhere out in farm land, so we stopped to ask a farmer in a field for directions. He was young, very nice, and Amish. Of course being young I was in love, you know, here's a cute guy, Amish or not I do remember we stopped to eat somewhere in PA, and had the best pie I've ever had, freshly baked, none of that frozen stuff, I can't quite remember what type of fruit it was, it was so long ago, it might have been peach or blueberry, but all I know, is that it was like they had just picked the fruit and baked it, totally worth the trip. I remember my vacations by food, I guess you can tell that

If you want to watch a really interesting documentary on the Amish this is a great movie. To be honest it really shocked me.

Re: This is fascinating, everything you wanted to know about the lives of the Amish

Just come to my house, and I'll take you to visit some. I know several, as we have many Amish patients at our office.

One winter, I was going to take Jenna to this one woman's house, to have her help us make a quilt for Jenna's bed. For some reason, we didn't do it, but I just love this woman! I've asked her so many questions about their young people and their life, and she is happy to answer them. She's in her 70s.

I'm amazed at how truly beautiful some of their girls/women are. Just wholesome, unadulterated beauty in their faces.

I remember one time, a woman came in with her little 3-year-old daughter, and that child was stunning. I asked her if they had any pictures of her, even though it's against their faith to have their pictures taken. I told her that she really should have a keepsake of how that precious little girl looked at age three (and I'll bet she continues to look that way). She told me that yes, they did have a couple of pictures that they kept at home, just for their family.

We had a couple of them buy the Crest WhiteStrips. We got a kick out of that one.

Re: This is fascinating, everything you wanted to know about the lives of the Amish

When I was a teen, I was a carnival worker... There were a few places in Pennsylvania that we set up at and there were a lot of Amish. What I remember most was when I was in this one diner; this group of 3-4 teenaged Amish girls came in and went into the bathroom... In a few minutes this group of 3-4 teenaged girls came out of the restroom in mini-skirts and "painted up"... Wow! Some of the younger generation can be a bit wild. LOL

And some of the Amish men... Mmm, mmm, mmm!!!
Even with the plain clothes, and those funky haircuts.
