Question Where do you get your hair cut?

I've been going to the same lady who cuts my hair for the last several years. I have long, thick curly hair so I just figured that I would have to pay more to get my hair cut properly.

Last time I got my hair cut about 2 inches (my hair is all one length) and it blow-dried (diffused actually) and it cost $46. That is just crazy IMO. Now I am looking at switching places but am unsure what to do.

Do most of you go to the same person every time? Do you go to an inexpensive place or a pricey place? About how much do you pay for a haircut?

Thanks!

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

ShainaT, if your hair is long and curly, even with a bad cut, your hair would still look good. Length and curls are a LOT more forgiving than short and straight. BELIEVE ME!

Anyway, to answer your question, my mom was a hairdresser for 35+ years, so she always did my hair. Shortly after she quit, I decided to not bother her with mine, and go to my sister-in-law, who is also a hairdresser. I told her when I started going to her that she had mighty big shoes to fill. LOL. And she has filled them quite well.

It costs me $9 for my haircut, and $12 if she styles it after the cut. And yes, those are her regular prices. One of the joys of living in rural America.

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

I usually go midrange. When I was in Louisiana I found someone who cut my hair, (wash, cut, and blowdry) for $12.00 she always did a great job. Other than her I never went to the same place twice, I have paid from $8 -$25 and rarely got a cut that I liked.
The best haircut I ever got was from someone who was still in cosmotology school! I wish I knew where she was now!
I have gotten one cut since I have been in WA, paid 15.00 and I hated it!
Iam going to get my hair cut next week. Don't know where I am going yet but I am hoping to find a winner!

God Bless!!

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

That's just it, Angie. There are those that have a natural ability, and those who don't. It's that way with anything, I guess.

My mom was 'doing' hair when she was in junior high and high school; it was just something she loved to do, so when was properly trained, it just came easily for her. Same with my SIL. She did family member's cuts and styles for years before she got her training.

I do think it's to your advantage to stick with the same hairdresser, once you've found one that does your hair reasonably well. The more they get to know your hair and how it handles and reacts to things, the better off you're going to be. My SIL keeps a card file on each of her customers, as did my mom. And when you go back in for subsequent appointments, she always asks how I got along with my perm, styling, etc., and makes a note of that, or tells me what I can do to make it easier for myself.

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

Up until 6 mos ago I was going to the same salon and had the same person do my hair. I rarely got just a haircut, but cuts were expensive.

When I went back to my natural color I decided all this nonsense with expense for my hair was a done deal and that was the end of it. I have very long wavy hair. It's baby fine but it's very think and in great condition.

I gave myself a trim about 3 mos ago. I was happy with the results but it took several sessions and too much time.

After it grew in a bit in 6 weeks, I decided to try Quick Clips and paid $10!!!!!!!!!! for an excellent trim. (She also told me the trim I gave myself was awesome because it was perfect.)

I'd go back in a heartbeat when I'm ready for my next healthcut.

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

I went to the same person for 8 years and about6 months ago she moved to Florida. I felt lost! She gave me every perm and haircut for all of those years. I've been to 2 other places and I'm not happy with either. They either cut too much or not enough. The average for a shampoo, cut, and blow dry around here is $25.00.

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

I go to a salon a few times a year, the rest of the time I just cut it myself. The last time I went for a cut my hair stylist asked who cut it the last time, I told her me, she said, great job. So...I just started cutting it again, and I'm happy with the way it looks.

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

I pay $10 with a coupon at Great Clips. My hair is chin length and under cut so there's not a lot to goof up on. I am happy with them.

I brought my boys to a new salon and they had the worst haircuts ever. Their hair is more complicated and of course, shorter....More room for mistakes, I guess. DD got a free haircut coupon for the same place and decided she would try it. She has shoulder length layered hair. She was happy with the haircut...and the price!

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

I wish I could help but my mother is a hairdresser and has always done my hair and if she stops my sister will take over she just got her license a few years ago. If I didn't have either of them, I know enough people that do hair that are good that I have no worries.
My mother is very expensive but she has done many celeberities hair cuts and other services. She also has many years of experience (about 25 yrs.). I know I couldn't pay the prices that are charged, it is expensive. Most of the cheap places have the ones that are fresh out of school. Thats not always a bad thing. I was a guinea pig for my sister when she was in school and except for her very first cut (which I volunteered for) the rest were as good as my mothers work.
If I had to find someone blindly I would ask my friends who have really good cuts where they got theirs done at and then choose the cheapest.

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

I would say the average price for me is $18-$28 cut and blow dry, depending on where I go. In the big cities, it is way, way more, I know. I would never have the nerve to cut my own hair. Eeek!

Re: Where do you get your hair cut?

I go to Great Clips, my hair is really basic. I usually keep it right at my shoulders. Layers don't do me any good because I have so much hair. If and when I start to get it colored, I'm sure I will try to find a stylist. The upkeep sure is expensive though, isn't it?

No kidding, wow. I get a perm for $42, and that includes a cut when she's done.
