awesome dinner! Me and my friend were cruising around last night looking
to grab dinner, something different than the typical crap diner or
chain place. He suggested the old Beirut Restaurant on Union Blvd. At first I said, "Isn't that a drug dealing front?" Well apparently its been clean for 10 or more years, those were old owners.
The entree menu is kind of pricey, so I was kind of ticked when we sat
down. But then we noticed a "maza" platter which is like a Thali in an
Indian place or a tapas in a Portugese, it is a sampler platter for
$22(or $11 each essentially). We shared it. It was truly awesome, they
bring you a a basket of pita bread, then all these little plates with
humos, babaghanouj, roasted eggplants, feta and olives, grape leaves
stuffed with lamb meat, roast cauliflowers in this awesome tahini
sauce.
I mean it never ended. It was almost like a comedy routine, platters
kept coming over a 30 minute span!!. And it was all great. The only
thing I regret, I should have eaten a light lunch earlier in the day,
we couldn't even finish it! Other than the refined grain pitas, it was
extremely healthy, and not everything even needed the pita bread. Oh
yeah, there was a mushroom salad, it was great. I mean, even if you
went to Wegmans or an ethnic grocery, I estimate it would at least cost $10or $15 for the raw ingredients!!
It was honestly the quality level you would expect in South Street
Philly or Soho in NYC, or Adams Morgan in DC. They have belly dancing
some nights (not when we went, maybe we were early). I think the
menu said they automaticall add $2.50 to your bill if she's on duty,
I'll double check that the next time I go.
