yeah, that is frustrating. Or they take your app/resume, give you a typing test, then say, we'll get back to you.
There is a lot of pre-texting/lying/bait&switch in these listings too. You can see the ads that keep popping up, slightly re-written. Sometimes they are actually re-written to be more realistic, like they ran through too many people that quit, now they are being more upfront about what the job exactly entails. Other times, it is just re-writing an ad slightly so the newspaper or website puts the "first time ad" designator on it.
Of course, there are a couple agencies in town that are know for bait and switch ads. One in particular, they are a joke, they are begging people to apply because everyone knows that they are listing good sounding jobs, but once you get there it is crap that barely pays decent.
Anyway, I had a good interview today. It is for a limo service, answering phones to take reservations and dispatch drivers. But while interviewing me, she said they are also pioneering a charter division to lead group tours. Due to my travel agent background, I might end up leading group tours to NYC museums and neighborhoods from here! Imagine, getting PAID to go into the city every day. Of course, there would be hand holding of the people, but they are same day turnarounds, the real whining is on overnight tours which these would NOT be. Of course, I would have to start with the basic reservations job first.
See, that is a good example, they are not going to advertise the good jobs. It would almost be like working the advertised job to be first in line for the tour leader opening.
I have to decide and call them back tommorow. Or I could keep working this assignment I'm on, which has zero room for advancement, but it is a steady gig. Then again, nothing venture nothing gained.
