Good grief! How many bus drivers does your kiddo go through a year?

My dd is on her 4th bus driver so far.
The first one she had for about a month, but the bus was too crowded, so she got a new bus & driver. After a couple months the driver of the new bus decided she wanted to go back to driving the big rigs. That brings us to driver number 3, who just got called to active duty after driving the bus for 2 months. so here we are on bus driver number 4 for at least 30 days...LOL

Oh, and let me just add that she rides a different bus home, so technically that makes it 5 bus drivers she's had this year.

Re: Good grief! How many bus drivers does your kiddo go through a year?

Wow, that's a bunch! We are so lucky with our bus driver. I was shocked when DS started Kindergarten last year to find out that all the grades ride the same bus. From 12th grade to Kindergarten. Last year the bus driver would always help DS find a seat close to the front (we are close to the end of the route and the bus is really full). This year my two DS ride the bus and the same bus driver keeps the front seat open for the two of them.

On the few occassions that we've had a substitute driver, the bus is just a mess! Poor DSs wander around looking for a seat, it's so sad!

Re: Good grief! How many bus drivers does your kiddo go through a year?

*We're* on #3....this last one (which they had for two years) just up and decided she wasn't comfy driving this one very back road that a few new kids live on...uhhhhh, huh????? Granted it is one of the roads around here that I don't believe ever sees a snow plow. Well, my second son told me back when it was the worst, that this driver asked 2 families to MEET her at an intersection so she wouldn't have to drive down that road at all. That did bother me because, I'm sorry, but we're not talking a block or two...we're talking MILES to an intersection. I imagine if something happened to cause one of the families to be late or not be able to leave their house because of illness, all of the kids in that family would have missed school or they would have had to have an alternative way to get to school.

Re: Good grief! How many bus drivers does your kiddo go through a year?

My kids don't ride the bus yet - but I remember having the same bus driver all though my junior and senior high years. He ended up being my husband's friend's dad, so I still see him on occasion! He always jokes about me getting in trouble on the bus.

I remember all my bus drivers (I think I only had 3 - with a few substitutes now and then), they were probably as important to me as my teachers back then!

Re: Good grief! How many bus drivers does your kiddo go through a year?

I had the same bus driver from like 7th. or 8th. grade and on also. She was married to a man my parents worked with...hee hee...she also attended my baby shower when I was pregnant with my first son. Her son (oldest child) and daughter went to school with us and I was really good friends with their son all through H.S (well, he graduated a year before me).

Re: Good grief! How many bus drivers does your kiddo go through a year?

Just be glad its not a teacher. My daughter started fifth grade, (her first year since kindergarten not being homeschooled btw!)
she started with a sub because the regular teacher had some health problems and was unable to work. She expected to have this sub only a month or two, we then got notice that the regular teacher would not be back until after Christmas sooo...
First day back from Christmas vacation they finally get to meet their regular teacher. The sub that had been working with them all this time went out of state to be w/ her daughter who was having a baby.
The second day the regular teacher was there, she had some problems and the decison was made that she had to retire. So, now not having the teacher who had been with them from the beginning of the year and not having someone to come in and take over the job, we have another sub who will be there until the end of the year!
It has been something, getting adjusted to three different teachers in one year!!

God Bless!!

Re: Good grief! How many bus drivers does your kiddo go through a year?

My kids have had the same driver for the last 2 years. Except ocassionally they have a sub driver, like last week. My kindergarten came home and told me the sub driver apparently said three bad words (and my son spelled them for me!) We called the bus people and they reviewed the tape (they video the kids the whole time they are on the bus) and sure enough the sub driver was cussing at kids, so they fired him. He was actually a driver of another bus and not just a sub so he lost his "real job".

K-12 rides our bus too, but the bus driver divides the seats up by schools, so young kids sit closer to the front and the high school kids sit in the back.
