Re: Considering that insects are allowed in chocolate bars, do you still eat them?

I'm with you bestmidwestern! Just give me my chocolate, don't tellme what is in it!!
Just think of those that eat chocolate with bugs in it on purpose!!

this is for real. My daughter ate one of these a while back at a radio station promotion at the mall. She got a pin that said "I ate a bug"
This company makes all kings of candy covered bugs.
The youth pastor at our old church did this too! It was pretty nasty. You could not pay me to knowingly put a grasshopper, cricket or any other bug in my mouth! Now that is just plain gross!!!
On a bet, my hubby ate a live grasshopper, and it wasn't even covered in chocolate!!
Uggghhh!!!

God Bless!!

Re: Considering that insects are allowed in chocolate bars, do you still eat them?

Sure, you have to post this a week before I go to an annual fundraiser called "Chocolate Indulgence". Restaurants and bakeries from all around town give out free samples of their chocolate creations. Plus, people walk around with trays full of chocolate goodies for you to pick at. (They also have a silent auction and some other things, but I mostly go for the free goodies!!!)
Just think of it as extra "protein".....ha ha

I don't have a problem eating my chocolate. But did ya'll know that the little critters are allowed in ALL our food?? Peanut butter, canned goods, everything.

Re: Considering that insects are allowed in chocolate bars, do you still eat them?

I have heard that, A certain percentage of roaches, rat, rat hairs or something like that in all food. I am learning Nourishing Traditions and one of the best things about that is you make everything yourself. It is much safer that way!
Mostly I try not to think aobut it. It is really going to a restaraunt that is the worst, having worked in one and seen and heard the horror stories. It is enough to cure me from not liking to work in the kitchen!

God Bless!!

Guilty as charged here. I just polished off an entire Valentine heart box of chocolates by myself in just 4 days, and I didn't even think about what added extras were in them. Boy did they taste good too, and I think I gained back those 10 lbs I lost.

Re: Considering that insects are allowed in chocolate bars, do you still eat them?

I know what you mean. My kids wanted to give me early bd presents- I got a multi pack of Kit Kats and a 1 lb bag of reeces peices! YUM!
Besides, any bugs that might be in there are probably a lot better for you thatn half of the other ingredients. It doesn't matter! I'm a chocoholic and I'm not planning on quitting anytime soon!!

God Bless!!

Re: Considering that insects are allowed in chocolate bars, do you still eat them?

Yes, insects are in our food... they also crawl into our mouths at night while we sleep... they like the moisture. Really though, if they can sell chocolate covered ants all over the world, then I figure it won't hurt us here. The bigger problem is, why have they replaced Vanilla with Vanillian (artificial)... now that's gross.

Re: Considering that insects are allowed in chocolate bars, do you still eat them?

I honestly do not understand the big deal. No one dies from eating these candy bars with insects in them. I would be more concerned if the manufacturers sprayed chemicals around to control the insects. Or if the government made some kind of regulations in an attempt to lower the population of insects in chocolate, causing manufacturers to be forced to take expensive methods to get rid of the insects, thus driving up the cost of chocolate.
Of course it is inevitable that someone will sue the chocolate industry, as they are now sueing the fast food industry, for endangering our lives by feeding us sugar.
The day will come that all the food we are sold will be regulated for our own protection. It already is to some extent. No one is responsible for their own behavior anymore.
