Shocked I've heard of raining cats and dogs, but ... (OK, pics posted!)
Whales?

TAIPEI (Jan 29) - "The decomposing remains of a 66-ton sperm whale exploded on a busy Taiwan street, showering nearby cars and shops with blood and organs and stopping traffic for hours, local newspapers said.

The 56-foot dead whale had been on a truck headed for an autopsy at a university earlier this week, when gases from internal decay caused its entrails to explode in the southern city of Tainan.

The whale had died after it was beached on the southwestern coast of the island."

Yuck I saw this on the news tonight!

It has been certified by authorities as the largest beached whale on record in Taiwan, 17-meters long and 50-tons in weight.

According to local news reports, the animal's record size proved a tough challenge for the work crews, and it took more than 13 hours, 3 large lifting cranes, and 50 workers to get the beached sperm whale loaded onto the flat-bed trailer-truck to be taken on its final trek.


Can you imagine after taking 13 hours to load this sucker that it ended up exploding! If I was one of the workers that I had to load it, I'd be so frustrated!

Yuck! OMG, my husband is in Taiwan right now! But it looks as if this happened at the other end of the country. I'll have to ask him about this!
