Registering a dog with AKC (The American Kennel Club) question......

I don't know if anyone on here has any dogs that are registered with AKC, but if there is someone, I have a question.


My question is, Do you know about how long after you send the paperwork in to get your dog registered, if it is approved and everything, does it take for them to send you the actual papers (registration) for the dog?


If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

It takes awhile, I know with both of my dogs it took about 2 months!

Yep....it takes quite a while. I registered my min-pin and it took about 6 months to get the paperwork back. If you think about how many registered animals born every day, you can understand how backed up they get at the AKC.

Yeppers....I remember it being quite a long time as well...even longer to get their bloodline papers...<-- I can't remember exactly what they are called...LOL! I only sent off for one of the dogs since both Beagles were from the same litter.

My in-laws breed Labs, so I asked them this question. From what I understand AKC's slowness sometimes isn't due to their being overwhelmed. Typically, the problem is the breeder not turning in the litter certification in a timely manner! If it's taking a long time, I'd suggest talking to your breeder and asking when they submitted their portion of the paper work.

All information given by other members is correct. I have 2 AKC registered dogs.

It must be that they are overwhelmed, our beagles's paper work came back within 60 days. (I ownly remember because we showed them soon after and we "watched the calendar"
