No Christmas dinner food threads yet? What are you making?

I'm going to my bro's house for xmas and have to take a dish. I would like to take something new and different.

What are you making? Any traditional foods that you have every year?

Re: No Christmas dinner food threads yet? What are you making?

Nothing, my BIL does all the cooking on Christmas, and if he doesn't have time to, we just order a pizza, then open gifts at my sister/BIL's house. I like to bring something when I go however, usually a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates.

I'm going to my brother's house too. I just realized he hasn't emailed me to tell me what to bring. Usually we have cold cuts, chips, dips, etc.

Re: No Christmas dinner food threads yet? What are you making?

Nothing! It's been my family's tradition forever that we go out to eat on Christmas. There is a really nice hotel in Stone Mountain Park that we go to- it's like $30 a person but my dad pays for our family. About 30 family member total go and they give us our own little room. They have everything- a cold raw bar, a smoked bar, salad, roast beef and then about 5 other main entrees and all the sides. About 20 different desserts including made to order Bananas Foster.

I just hope we get to go- my family is all really sick.
Dad started this tradition when I was little as a present to mom so she didn't have to cook.

We are all going to my parent's for dinner. Mom is making a ham, bro #3 is making a deep fried turkey, bro #2 is making prime rib. I am baking the pies for dessert....apple, cranberry apple, pumpkin, french silk and mini croissants for during dinner.

Isn't it great how traditions start? This sounds like an awesome idea though I do like hanging out in the kitchen helping get things ready for the meal while ALL the kids are playing downstairs! LOL Our group is about 30 also.

We usually have ham and pork loin grilled to perfection on the snowy deck. I have been contacted to bring the appetizer. Rather than new and different I will bring this platter that I have done a couple of times. It has marinated beef, cherry tomatoes, olives, artichokes, peppers, as well as cheese cubes, etc. It is a little putsy getting it all together, but I like it because everyone finds something they like to munch on and it looks so impressive! Now I don't have to agonize over finding the right thing. lol

I love to see what other people do. We all have such different traditions!

My mother and I always have Manacotti for dinner on Christmas eve. I also really like to make the pickle/beef rolls with cream cheese.

Re: No Christmas dinner food threads yet? What are you making?

Debbie, you prob just call it something else.

Hanky Panky~

Dark Cocktail Rye (the little stuff)
spread with mayo
then top with chopped up corned beef
then top that with cheddar cheese
Broil & Eat

Good stuff and found at any Moose or Elk gathering in KY that I have been to.

Re: No Christmas dinner food threads yet? What are you making?

I always get to cook so:
12-15 lb turkey (herbed with olive oil)
8 lb Rib Roast with a dry rub and cooked in beef stock/gravy
Green Bean Casserole
Sweet Potato Casserole
rolls
mashed potato
gravy..beef and poultry
mushroom stuffing
cranberry sauce
corn or peas ...haven't decided yet
Pumpkin cheesecake
pumpkin pie
ice cream sundaes

My dining room is so crowded we almost have to sit on each other and laugh the whole time.

And almost all of it is already prepared and waiting to be tossed into the oven tommorrow. I am already tired...LOL
Merry Christmas and a happy indigestion!
