Question Military Move question......

DH finally agreed to let me got some new dining chairs to replace our cheap plastic patio chairs that we use now....but only if the military will pay for us to move when he gets out- possibly in as little as a year.
Does anyone know if the military will cover the final move or not?
Thanks in advance,
Kristin

Re: Military Move question......

I don't know about that one Kristin, but there is a relocation discussion board on military.com where you might ask.

Kristin, as far as I know, they should...I know they did for our neighbor when he got out but I would have hubby ask his commanding officer ...hope that helps

Yes, they will pay for you to move to your city of residence listed in DH's files. They also come in and pack everything, which you should let them, because anything YOU pack is not covered under the military insurance. I packed some pictures and they repacked them and told me that. We moved about 5 miles away from where DH grew up, so it was no big deal for us to move withing the "city", BUT when we were considering moving to Arkansas, they told us we would have to pay the difference. Also, unless it has changed, you are also given a 6 month storage too if needed. Our house was not ready and we lived with my Mom, then with my MIL for 4 months until we could get everything done. Then they delivered it to our new home AND brought it all in and placed it where I told them to.

Thank you bassmount. Ya saved me alot of typing. You are absolutely correct. At least that's the way it was while I was in the military. So ghostie79, I wouldn't worry. Uncle Sam will take care of you.

Re: Military Move question......

Yes, they will pay to move you back to your home of record. And you have 2 options; you can either let them come in pack and move you all for free UNLESS, you go over the weight limit and then you have to pay the difference. However, most people don't go over the limit. Your second option is to do a DITY (do-it-yourself) move. You rent the truck, back your bags and move the stuff on your own. In this case, the heavier the better as you get paid by the pound up to your limit. (This is based on rank, for example, an E-4 with dependants gets 6,000 pounds. Although I believe the weight limits were increased recently.) When my husband and I got base housing we moved from town to post (6 miles) and did it all in one day. The truck and boxes cost us about $120 and we got a check for almost $800. DITY moves pay very well, so I'd seriously consider doing it. A cross-country move can make you several thousand dollars. Good luck!
