Thumbs down An FYI about Target

I received this message from a friend of mine who's husband is in the Marines. She is being asked to boycott Target because of the following message. I'm not sure I will (don't shop there much anyway), but it sure made me think! (and my husband, who's a veteran, angry)

Vietnam Veterans Association By Dick Forrey

We asked our local Target store to be a sponsor of
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring
recognition event. We received back a reply from
Target management that "veterans do not meet our area of giving. We
only donate to the areas of the arts, social
actions, gay and lesbian causes, and education."

My thought: If the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall
and veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria,
something is wrong at Target. We were not asking
for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, but simply
sponsorship of an endorsement for a memorial remembrance.

As follow-up, I E-mailed the corporate
headquarters and their response was the same.
Personally, I will NOT be purchasing anything
at Target Stores again. If the Vietnam Veteran or
Veterans in general do not meet their area of
giving, then why should I, as a Vietnam veteran,
spend my hard earned money in their stores?

Please pass this on to as many people as you know.

Sincerely,
Veterans Helping Veterans

PS: Target will also not allow the Marines to
collect for "Toys For Tots" during the holidays

Interesting hmmmm?

Our local Target does Toys For Tots every year. Maybe it is not Target's official policy, but up to each store or district manager?

It amazes me how these stupid rumors start and then spread like wild fire without anyone checking the facts first....
Claim: Target stores do not "support veterans."

Status: False.

I appreciate the new article on Target, and I have passed it on to my friend. This is one of the reasons I posted on here. I can always count on people here to be aware of the "true" facts about something. I had no idea about the urban legends sight and was unable to figure out how to verify this info.

I had told her that it didn't sound right to me, but I'd see what people here thought.

Thanks for helping!

I love Snopes.com! Friends and family are always forwarding these "true stories" to me, and 9 out of 10 are debunked on Snopes.

Target is a GREAT store unless you want to return something.

Even if you have a receipt you have to jump through so many hoops it is ridiculous!

I have a friend who sends me fake stories all the time (poison perfume samples, sick kids, online murderers, etc). It doesn't matter how many times I reply to her and give her the snopes links, she keeps on it!

Never had a problem, with or without a receipt. There's a Target Greatland near me and I love shopping there! They're always giving to many organizations.

Thumbs down a-men to that

Shainia T. I'll definitely second that one about Target. I had recently had a baby and went to return a duplicate baby item and after 45 minutes of their "runaround" about not having a receipt I left. I still have the two outfits nearly two years later. I HATE TARGET. Those muscle theft guys at the front of the store are nothing like the pleasant "greeters" at Walmart. Plus, Walmart is less expensive on the exact same stuff.

This is my mom as well. I have sent her the snopes link so many times but she never goes there and checks anything out before she sends it to another half million people..lol

Target is not exactly next door to where I live, so I've only shopped there about 4 times. I never had to return anything, so I don't know if the one closest to me is good or bad. As to a policy saying they won't support veterans, I find that hard to believe.
