I just saw something about estrogen supplements on the news the other day. They said that they are NOT recommended, that people who take them get relief, but then in later years have a greater probability of developing breast cancer and that many get it from having taken them. They are definitely not recommended for people with breast cancer in their family. I know I won't ever be taking them, too much family history. If you have hot flashes I say grin and bear them as long as there is no depression associated with them. If there is depression your doctor can prescribe a mild anti-depressant. Sarafem is one that I'm aware of, you take it as needed, it is not cumulative. It is like a mild Prozac. We as women have to accept the fact we are going to get hot flashes as we age, it's normal though unpleasant. Just crank up your A/C, soak some towels in cold water, put them around you and definitely wear cotton clothing, no rayon. Rayon does not breath. I read where if you stay away from sugar and meat, that will help eliminate hot flashes. Soy pills are supposed to work to eliminate the problem, but they are associated with estrogen and I've heard of people getting breast cancer from using those too, so I'm sorry I don't have any good answers for you here.

It's harder on some people, and I have taken Premarin (.625mg) since 1962 (surgical menopause) with no problems. My doctor says I should continue, and this is one that isn't a combination like the HRT we are being warned about. It's not 'one size fits all.' Without it I would be miserable all the time. |

They had at first thought of Estrace, it was just estrogen. It was a surgical procedure. I did order this great thing called Cool Thing [Only registered and activated users can see links. Please try natural progesterone. I have used it for years and love it. Recently reccomended it to my step mom , who is being treated for breast cancer. She said it helped her right away. You can buy it over the counter at natural food stores. Here is a link to a good book about it : __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. Because of history of Breast CA it's not recommended. I'm like Sandy, and take the same dose of premarin - since 1991. I know I need it.
