Question Wedding Reception Ideas

I hope I am posing this in the right place....

I am holding a wedding reception in a few weeks at my house. Because we are very frugal people we are doing all of the decorating, food, etc ourselves. I was wondering if anyone had any good receipies or decoration ideas for this type of event. I am willing to try (almost) anything. I would like the guests to feel welcome and have a good time. Can anyone please help?

Thanks,

a distressed bride to be

Forgot to mention, there will be about 100 guests...

The first thing that came to mind was to tie some tulle fabric around certain things as decoration, like chairs, banisters, etc. A pretty centerpiece for the tables could be a plain glass dish filled with water and floating candles.

Congrats and good luck!

one of the frugal things we did at my reception was we borrowed a lot of old (clean) glass bottles that were assorted shapes and sizes from my old high school art teacher and used those for wildflower/garden-clipped flower arrangements on the tables. it was cheap and romantic looking! (we grouped about three to five bottles for each arrangement)

Oh I love that bottle idea!

Another is finding mirrors at the dollar store and putting them in the center of tables with some fancy wedding confetti sprinkled on them.

Also, I used shredded ribbon sprinkled on the tables too.

Tulle can be found relatively inexpensively on ebay... many folks use it once for their wedding then sell it ... I wonder if some of it hasnt been used in three or four weddings LOL!!

Also, use fresh herbs and tied together in clusters for centerpieces... the smell is wonderful!

Well, I don't know what you are doing for food, but if you want something that is nicer than cold cuts and bread, but won't kill your wallet, my girlfriend and I make a great chicken salad.
You can serve it on regular or little croissants or wheat rolls or even little squares of pumpernickle as an h'ordeurve.
Here is the basic recipe just make as much as you need.

Boneless skinless chicken breast baked, cooled, and chopped
Chopped celery to taste
Chopped onion to taste
ranch dressing

I like mine more crunchy so I add more and bigger veggies.
You can also punch it up fancy by adding chopped green or red grapes, or chopped pecans or cashews. It depends on your taste.
We did a shower once for 25 ladies and they all loved it.

Best wishes and have fun!
