Well, I had the wedding from ****, and the marriage didn't last either. The wedding was FULL of bad omens! (This is my first marriage; I've since remarried, and have been so for 11 years.)

Where do I start? Ah yes, the bridesmaids' flowers. I had ordered them weeks before, and we were going to make the bouquets ourselves the night before the wedding. When we went to pick them up, they were the wrong color! Luckily, the florist gave us some spray color, and we turned the dusky pink carnations into pale pink.

My bridesmaids and I drove up to Ojai (a beautiful town in CA, where they filmed the original Shangri-la movie) to stay in a hotel overnight. My maid of honor met us there, seriously black and blue all over, because she had been BEATEN BY HER BOYFRIEND! We were horrified, but she wouldn't let us do anything about it at that time.

The next day, I went to pull my bride's bouquet of white roses out of the 'fridge, and it had turned BLACK! (It seems it got too cold.) I tried to remain calm, and we managed to fashion another bridesmaid bouquet out of leftover flowers, and gave it to the junior bridesmaid, while I carried one of the fancier ones we had made the night before.

My wedding was outdoors, and it was windy. I was informed, as I arrived, that the Bride and Groom champagne glasses had been caught by the wind and smashed to pieces before we could drink from them! When my new husband and I tried to light the unity candle, the wind kept blowing it out!

But the worst thing was that the groom TOTALLY IGNORED me during the reception! He was too busy with his friends to pay any attention to me. I had to drag him away just to do the first dance. He explained to me that he wouldn't be able to see his friends very often, as we were moving 3 hours away, and he could see me any old time! (I later found out his "friends" were giving him lines of cocaine during the reception.) I remember just sitting in my girlfriend's car and crying because I felt like the loneliest bride in the world!

The next morning I woke up and thought, "What have I done?!"

Do I regret it? Yeah, I do! What a jerk! The reception predicted how my new husband would behave in the marriage, and he and I were divorced within 2 years. I only wonder how I could have been so stupid as to marry him in the first place. Gosh, do I sound bitter?!

Talking Found my charming prince!

We met 12/29/01, got engaged 5/18/02 & got married 11/9/02. We both had said we wanted to know our imaginary future spouse for at least a year before we got engaged & be engaged at least a year before we got married. BUT then we finally found each other at age 37 (me) & 31 (him) & decided we had waited long enough to find each other, we didn't want to wait any longer to get married.
We belong to a group called the SCA, Society for Creative Anachronism, that does Middle Ages re-enactments. We met at our local group's post-Christmas party. We got engaged during "Court" at an event. Our wedding had a Rennaisance theme. I had a long white dress (no train) with flowing sleeves that we had made for less than $100-- including material! It was simple, but I looked good in it-- hard to do when you are a "woman of substance" as I am! (I'm not huge, but I am further past curvaceous than I would like to be.)
Glenn (DH) wore a Poet's shirt, new black jeans & a doublet (think Medieval vest) that my seamstress made. He is a big guy & doesn't need to dress up for work. I told him we would just buy him a new pair of black jeans & they would LOOK the same as dress pants as long as they weren't worn beforehand & faded. (They looked very nice on him & still do.)
My Matron of Honor made my veil (white silk circlet w/ blue flowers). The flower girls (my neices) wore First Communion dresses. (One was borrowed from church friends as Katy hasn't made her 1st Communion yet.) The ring bearer wore black pants & a Poet's shirt.
My Bride's Matron (his best friend & now my friend too) owns a costume shop & loaned us the Poet's shirts for the Groom's party. That was a big help!
We had friends from the SCA who helped us set up the reception. Sam's Club & Wal-Mart "catered" our reception. We bought hors de oevres & 2 sheet cakes from Sam's, veggies, sodas & punch mix from WallyWorld. We got a semi-formal wedding cake from a local bakery. It was a relatively traditional cake -- 2 or 3 tiers (I forget which) w/ a Little Mermaid scene on top! (The wedding of Ariel & Prince Erik-- right down to a miniature wedding cake!) We found the LM scene at Toys R Us & fell in love w/ it! We wanted a Medieval themed cake topper, but couldn't find one for less than a small fortune. He wanted the bride to have red hair like mine & we both LOVE Disney movies, so this was perfect.
My only regret is that we didn't get more pictures of us with friends. A very dear friend of his(ours) died in April. He & his family came to our wedding & we only have one picture of them as they came into church. We went out to eat with them after the reception & the clean-up of the hall. That was the last time we saw him alive. I am VERY glad that we went out w/ them (instead of rushing home to start our "wedding night"), but I wish we'd have gotten pictures of us w/ him.
One of the really neat things about our wedding is that my husband-to-be planned almost all the wedding himself!!! He works nights & weekends & I work M-F. I work abt 30 miles from our home & it's long distance to call home. It wasn't very practical for me to get estimates, etc over the phone & most places are closed by the time I would get back to town. Once he took over the planning, he had everything worked out in abt 2 weeks! AND it all looked very nice. For a color-blind man, he did a VERY good job! The flowers were beautiful, the food was good, the invitations were lovely.
In the end, we didn't spend a lot of money. We had a very nice church wedding, abt 150 guests & a nice reception. Friends of his took our pictures. That was $200 & we got 10 rolls of film, developed & a disk w/ abt 100 digital pictures. We spent something over $2,000 total. We had some extra expenditures that we didn't need on food b/c we thought more people were coming, but that couldn't be helped.
Like I said, I don't regret anything except not having more pictures with friends.
I found my charming prince & we are living happily ever after!

Karen

We were so poor and I was shy enough that I didn't want a big wedding, so we decided to just get married in our mobile home, with just immediate family there. We got cheap wedding bands, and arranged for the 'minister any time, any place'.

The night before the wedding, DH's mother claims he called her saying he wanted help and wanted it at her house. What? He told he never did that. Well, the next thing I know, she had called all THEIR friends, and it was to be at her house. I was livid because I really did want it the way we originally planned it. It turned into a giant party for them. We didn't even have a Maid of Honor or Best Man planned, and the minister said we had to have them now that this wedding was bigger, so we each asked our best friends at the time to stand there with us. They, of course, were in their street clothes. When my dad walked me down the steep stairs, I almost fell off my platform shoes because he was going so fast, and my eyes were really watering from the hard contact lenses that irritated my eyes so much. When I came around the corner, everyone was like, "Oh, how sweet! She's crying! Ahhhh." Right.

We got married in front of their liquor bar in their house (complete with glued in wiggly eyes in the knotholes! - oh, so classy). I remember standing there, thinking "How in the world did this happen???" The cake was a cheap bakery cake, and DH thought it was expected of him to smash the slice of cake all over my face and onto my dress. He really thought that! (His 'friends' were giving funny advice to him.) So, there is a picture of me crying, with my dad trying to clean my face up. It ruined my dress that I had saved for six months for and bought myself. Of course, there was no photographer - we just have a few shots my family took - bad picture quality - and 8 mm film of the ceremony itself. Then, he would not help me open the presents. He made me do it all, and I was very embarassed having everyone looking at me. It turned into a big drinking party - the LAST thing I had wanted, so I was already not happy on what should have been the happiest day of my life.

To top it off, I saw my MIL talking to DH's ex-girlfriend, who was crying really hard after the cake incident. At the time, I thought it was some unrelated problem she was having, but a few years later, my sister said that she and my mom both heard with their own ears, that the ex-girlfriend was devastated he had married me, and my MIL told her, "Don't worry, honey. It won't last long!" I had liked my MIL up until the day I heard that, then I looked upon her with a different light, believe me.

Honeymoon: We took the money my parents gave us, paid a few bills, then went on a road trip to Colorado, and had a lot of fun.

We've been married almost 28 years. He is a very kind and considerate person, so although I don't regret marrying him, I do regret the way we got married, and the cruddy MIL I ended up with. What a fiasco!

My first marriage.........YES I regret it. We got married at the courthouse.....I was 18 and he was 19. It was just a disaster and that is all I can say without blowing a gasket.

Not only did I have the MIL from **** (only at that time I had no idea exactly HOW bad she REALLY was) but my parents were upset I went and married this 'loser'.

There was no honeymoon. We were married 10 years before we divorced. But I knew after 6 months of being married to him that we should have split then. I just didn't want everyone else to say I told you so.

Now my second marriage.........we had a church wedding. It was a small one. I got to wear the nice gown (it was ivory) and he wore a tux. My daughter was the flower girl and my son was the ringbearer. A friend at church sang at our wedding and our friend who just happened to be the pastor married us. It was a very nice wedding. Lots of tear jerker moments.

The reception was ok I guess but definitley NOT what we paid for. We had the cake made by the wedding planner who didn't do a good job at all. It was crooked. It was a 3 tire heart shaped cake with red roses on it......real ones.....not icing ones. I mean, the cake tasted ok and all but it was crooked. Plus our wedding party had to help set up the reception area because our wedding planner didn't bring any help with her like she was going to. That was the worst thing. My MIL cut her hand on a mirror that was being used as a center piece on the table.....we placed candles on them and lit them up........thought I was gonna die right there! But everything worked out ok. It was not exactly the reception we had wanted and paid for but all that mattered in the end was that we were married and had a really nice wedding. WE paid for it ourselves since it was my second wedding.......although it was his first marriage. That is the reason for the church wedding......he said he was going to have the church wedding if he got married! lol

We have been HAPPILY married since Feb 18, 2001 and I do not regret anything!!!!! He is a WONDERFUL man and makes me VERY happy!!!!! It is a shame I didn't know him when I was 18 yrs old. lol
