I just received my Dish Network Bill in the mail and there was a paragraph starting w/ "STOP THE SATELLITE TV TAX IN OHIO" and gave this website...it's also for California, Nevada and Connecticut.

You can click on your state to read the "proposed" tax and also send a letter of opposition..

As a California resident who receives your television via satellite, you should be alerted to the fact that some in the State General Assembly is considering a measure that would increase your monthly TV bill by 8 percent.

While no formal legislation has been filed yet, that is the amount of a proposed state sales tax that some want to place on satellite TV services. A similar measure was proposed and rejected last year, but its supporters are back - trying to tax your TV.

As a Nevada resident who receives your television via satellite, you should be alerted to the fact that some in the State Legislature is considering increasing your monthly TV bill by 5 percent.

SB 492, one bill that contained such a measure, was rightly allowed to die. However, urged on by Cable TV, some legislators are still strongly considering adding some form of satellite TV tax to other tax bills moving through the lawmaking process.

A satellite tax in Nevada would hurt satellite subscribers, and encourage cable companies to raise their rates as well, hurting all pay-TV consumers.

Ohio satellite subscribers should know that the state legislature is considering a measure that would increase your monthly TV bill by 5 percent. That is the amount of a proposed state tax which Cable TV wants your legislators to place on satellite TV services.

This tax is unfair and discriminatory because it would only apply to those who obtain their TV service via satellite. Governor Taft proposed that the tax fall equally on both satellite and cable customers, but the legislature has dropped half the tax and not the other. Satellite subscribers would foot the bill alone. That’s not fair.

STOP THE SATELLITE TAX IN CONNECTICUT!

As a Connecticut satellite TV subscriber, you should know that the State Legislature is considering a measure, SB 1160, which would add 5 percent to your monthly bill. That would be in addition to the 6 percent sales tax you already pay on your satellite TV service, to the tune of nearly three million dollars a year, and on the purchase of your satellite equipment as well.

SB 1160 would impose a tax on satellite TV that was aimed at infrastructure-heavy industries like railroads. But satellite TV subscribers place no burden on the infrastructure of Connecticut's state or municipal governments.

This bill is promoted by Cable TV to shore up their falling market share by double-taxing satellite TV customers.

I do not live in those states and I do not have Satellite, but I urge you all to protest. If they succeed it will not be long before all the states adopt a tax on it.

That's just not fair. We have Satellite TV. Pretty soon we will all be getting rid of our TVs 'cause we won't be able to afford the bills. We'll be going back to the old days when everyone listened to the radio and played board games.
