I found a new thrift store yesterday, got some great bargains!

I actually had to drive at least 45 minutes, to East Haven, CT. The thrift store was having their Grand Opening, everything in the store marked down 1/2 price. I netted a Stone Mountain leather pocketbook, are you ready for this? Just $1.50! I saw the name on it, it's in perfect condition, is gently used, looks brand new. The people in the store had no idea what the brand was so they had it marked low to begin with, then I got 1/2 off. Got a great sweater tank top and matching sweater off the $1.00 rack, some cute long sleeved tops for just $2.00, a great black jean vest with studs for just $2.50. Can't wait to wear that! There is a store next door to that one "National Wholesale Liquidators". Spent a bundle in there, but got so much for my money, 2 skirts, 3 tops, 2 bras, gorgeous lace bathroom curtains, and all of that was only $64.00. The curtains look much more expensive than the price I paid.

I also found brass hoop earrings with inlaid stones at another thrift store, got those 1/2 off for around $2.00, and gold plated hoop earrings for 1/2 off, for just $1.00.

Did anyone else shop 'til they dropped yesterday? I never did get to Xpect Discount across the street 'cause my feet were sore from all that walking.

This was funny, at the first thrift store they had a pair of Frederick's of Hollywood shoes in light lilac patent leather, which were backless, and I swear, at least a 5-6" really skinny heel. Of course I just had to try them on, but talk about hysterical. One of the employees of the store was laughing, so was I. I was wobbly in them. I can't even imagine anyone wearing something like that. She said to me, they're half price today! I could have gotten these shoes for $4.00, yeah right.

LOL I should have read ahead, I just posted that I was going thru withdrawal over not seeing any of your bargain shopping posts!

I'll have to check it out, I have a friend who just moved from East Haven to Branford so when we visit him I'll make a sidetrack to the store - is it on rte 80?

It's the Frontage Road Exit in East Haven, CT off I-95 coming from where I live in Westbrook. There is an off track betting place there, or was. It's not the best thrift store I've been to, so you really have to look for the bargains. I've gotten more bargains at other thrift stores, but you might find something unique there. You just never know.

Go next door to National Wholesale Liquidators while you're there. It's a real junky type of store, but the bargains are really good. Another shopper told me they don't have any dressing rooms, but I think they have a 20 day return policy if stuff doesn't fit. They also sell TVs, housewares, curtains, toothpaste, rugs, towels etc. etc. You can get Mikasa crystal at good prices if you need a gift for someone.

Geez, you were right around the corner from Charlie's grandmother's house (she lives kinda behind Friendly's- across the highway). Also minutes away from both his mother and mine.

I didn't realize that Naomi. Too bad they didn't know me, I could have stopped off and visited both of them. I travel down that way once or twice a year for the bargains.

BTW, they are opening some kind of Shoppers World, something like that in that same strip mall. I guess it's going to be alot of different stores, bargain stores I hope. They are looking for tenants now.

No kidding, that area does not attract the best kind of people if you know what I mean, especially the Liquidator store, so I'm always careful to hang onto my bag. But if there are bargains, I'm there. That does not deter me.

I wish there were some decent thrift stores near me. The best one close by was shut down because they were letting the workers, which were all foreigners I believe, live in the basement.
And the other thrift store which is a Salvation Army thrift store has nothing but stuff that should be set out in the parking lot & burned. Me and my dh went there for the first time since we have lived here and I'll tell you it is BAD!! The furniture was total junk with outrageous prices. We only made it to the furniture level because it was about to close. Never again will I step foot in there. I'll just continue to donate to them.

I love to shop at thrift stores! My favorite one is the Village Discount Outlet in Austintown, Ohio. It's pretty big, lots of good items... I have found some great deals there!

The Salvation Army thrift store in Youngstown was not the nicest/cleanest thrift store I've ever been in, but my Mom, sister, and I used to get some great deals there. But they had a fire a couple years ago, as far as I know they never reopened it. And the one in Alliance... it was cleaner but small... it closed about a year ago.

I need to find a few more good thrift stores! But CT is a little out of my shopping territory! LOL

Hey there AndersonGal, you mean the Frederick's of Hollywood shoes? They were a size 9. I told the girl working there, they'd be great to wear in the bedroom, well...you get the picture. I mean, I couldn't even walk in them (LOL).
