At a garage sale, that is a tough one. Even though it is barely used, I think most people look for dirt cheap bargains. I'd like to see you get $40 - 50, but I'm afraid that you may not get more than $25.00 tops. It depends on the area you live in, I guess

If you have a consignment shop near you, you might find out how much they would give you...or at least a ballpark figure. That may help you decide.

If you can find a picture from a catalog or ad with a price showing the retail it would help get a higher price. Otherwise many people will use a "Target" price for comparison.

I'm thinking dirt cheap too especially at arummage. Sounds like a spendy mattress though, maybe run a local ad to sell it first?

Why not go a little higher? I did sell a crib mattress for $10 that was in nice shape...not mine LOL this one was only used by 1 child...but it was a cheaper lesser quality mattress, too. The thing is that if it looks pretty new and clean people will pay a decent price. It is the worn looking items that have to be dirt cheap. You can always go down...

Just had my garage sale and the weirdest things sold first!

I see most crib matresses around $10 - $15 at garage sales. I'd say $25 - $30 would probably be tops.

I just sold a crib matress for $25.00 here at the store. It was a sealy and in good condition.

I think your best bet would be to put it in the paper though because people are always looking in the classifieds for good baby items at a steal. And if you do that be sure to mention to them that the retail value was $xxx.xx and you are sacrificing it for $xx.xx.......this always makes them want to buy it then!

Good luck!

Wow.. I'm feeling kinda cheap. When I bought the crib mattress for my first dd (almost 8 yrs ago), we paid $30 for it, brand new, at Walmart.

Sealy is definately one of the better brands tho. I hate to say it, but I probably wouldn't pay more than $25 for it at a garage sale, but then again, I am a cheapskate.
You know, I don't think it would hurt to put the larger price tag on it. You'll probably have the occassional price haggler trying to talk you down, and if it doesn't sell in what you'd consider a reasonable amount of time, you can always mark it down too. Billsmrs idea of putting it in the paper is a good idea too.

When we had a garage sale last year, I put high prices on some of the baby items because I knew they were hardly used and didn't want to just give them away. Whatever didn't sell, I put in the Pennysaver. Do you have that where you live? The ads are free up to $50 in merchandise. I sold quite a few things that way. People tend to pay the price you ask and not haggle which is nicer than at a garage sale. I then put a few that didn't sell that way up on ebay (for "pick-up only" if they were large) and those have done pretty good. I still am selling a few right now, tho.

I like to price everything cheap so I am not stuck with any of the junk after it is over....I would rather sell it for 8 than have to stick it back downstairs because it was priced to high.

Five years ago, we paid about $50 each for crib mattresses, and my kids all slept just fine on the "cheap brand". But I've always known I'm cheap. I've never understood why people would want to buy a luxury car for $50k when you can get a fairly loaded model "normal" car for $25k, and why people spend a ton on really fancy bedroom furniture when they could get a nice (but admittedly plainer) set for about a third of the price.

But I'm sure there are people who can't understand why I don't want to pamper myself with luxury items, and always get cheap stuff.
