Interesting site.....Spackle of the Soul! (no idea why it's name this)

Here's a good one to peruse some time when you are bored. I spent a good hour going through all the pictures here. Almost all loaded in seconds on my dialup.

This guy collects pictures. Pictures he finds. Some he has found in Goodwill stores, inside cameras at yard sales, behind stores, in library books, all over the place. I thought it was kinda interesting. Few are not in very good taste but nothing real risque. Weird to see pictures like this. His captions are pretty good that he has given to each. Some funny....some not. Check it out sometime.

The reason it's called that is because:

"Laughter is the spackle of the soul"

How do I know this? Because the author of the site and I have exchanged emails and that saying is at the bottom of his email.

And now, a word from our sponsor

Hello, all... Mushroom from 'Spackle' here...

"Laughter is the Spackle of the Soul" because that's what holds us together. You know how when something bad happens, we say that we feel like we have a hole in our souls? We fill it in with humor. No one has ever asked 'why' before....

Life is like a Ming vase filled with urine: the item itself is priceless, but what fills it is mostly useless.

Glad that you are enjoying the site, that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. I see the hit counter go up but few people scrawl anything in the guestbook so I gotta go looking for my positive comments.... :-P Thanks! (And thanks, Toby!)

The Mushroom

Hey Mushroom! Welcome to DOD!

Wow....what a surprise! I never intended for this to happen...lol

I don't even remember how I found your website. I was doing a google search on something and saw the partial description of your website and looked it up. I looked at every picture there.I thought it was pretty cool

If we find any pictures along side the road, can we submit them to you?

Thanks for a cool website!

(Thanks Toby!)

Love Surprises

It's good to see that others appreciate the effort, since (as I was telling Toby) for every person who acknowledges they saw a website, 2 to 200 people never make a peep in the webmaster's direction. We're humans, we're creatures blessed with egos in need of a stoking. I found my adulation!

Pictures: Yes, I accept photos. The paper variety, snailmailed. The reason for this is because I'm a control freak who likes to own the original of something so (legally) I can prove I didn't borrow the image from someone else's site, and gives greater ability to manipulate the image -- you commented that the pictures come up quickly, this is because I scan them at 360dpi for great resolution then crop and reduce to be less than 400 pixels across, and less than 40k in file size. I'm on dialup, I know the agony of waiting for images. If you've got stray photos laying around, drop me an email and I'll tell you where to send them.

The hobby of found photography appears to have just one primary rule: the less connection to the subject, the better. Something you find, or something you are given by someone else, lacks personal context so one has to make up the details. That's half the fun of my site, beholding a photo and thinking "who is this person? what's going on here? what was so significant that someone whipped out the camera? and why do I have it now instead of the person who shot it?" The image below, for instance, makes one wonder why last season's cast of NYPD Blue was at the Regal Beagle tipping 'em back:

HAHA!! Regal Beagle!! That's funny! And that guy DOES look like Dennis Franz. The other guy looks like a young Rod Stewart.

I think it would be funny to make up a story about each picture and let everyone run with it. Jeskibuff would be a good candidate for this.

heh heh, good to see you got the Regal Beagle reference...

I do accept caption submissions in email. My site lacks the script-ability for viewers to add captions directly (as JFC has on his found photo site, [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]) so I have to add them manually. And the picture above is from the July update, so you have some time to comment...

Comment: no matter how hard he tried, (Bob) just couldn't get his fat stomach to tighten up like his favorite woof.

Poor dog! See that deranged look in her eyes - that's what happens when your human falls down on you and can't get up! OUCCH! Get OFF MY BACK!

No, below we have the result of that sort of human-canine collision. Or as one caption says, "Misty was a big dog, and the pooch wasn't too small either."
(Eyes obscured to avoid anyone's wrath.)

This image will be in the August update, even more time to comment.

Heeheehee...I like the obscured eyes more than anything. Looks like the old Orphan Annie cartoons.

Hey mushroom, most of your pictures you said you found behind a place called Deseret or something like that......what is that place anyway that there are so many photos to be found there?
