Deseret Industries is the chain of thriftstores run by the Mormon Church, and the nearest store is 5 miles up the main drag so I have visited it a lot over the years. Why it is that an LDS establishment, since its members are supposed to shun alcohol, has been such a great place to find bar-room photos is beyond me. I was walking behind the store on a Sunday (ergo were closed and donations were stacked unprocessed) when I saw a large packet of photographs, and knowing that they'd only be tossed out I pocketed them. This packet provided about half of the pictures I was posting for the first year of the site's existance. I wouldn't say I got "most" of them from Deseret -- or at the present time, since I've had three major infusions since that day, only one of which was courtesy of Deseret (someone was asleep at the switch, and 4 photo albums made by 2 different people made it to the sales floor with pictures still in them) -- but plenty of them, sometimes showing un-Mormon behavior. It's the random ones found at Goodwill across from my old apartment (in/near the frames, and in/near the photo albums) that break up the monotony.  and that's where I come in, memory reassignment duty Heh, thank you... We take photographs of whatever moments so that we may remember them, correct? What happens when we are holding the photographs but we don't remember the moment they are supposed to remind us of?

I have a box of photos from eight years of going to summer camp, and there are some that I remember the moment like it was yesterday and other that I go "okay, what?" Someone else is using the "show a found picture and caption it" concept, I discovered today -- and their specialty is slides. 17 years' worth of collecting found slides; I hardly ever find them but I can't say I've been looking or chose to pick one up.
