Veggie Garden...???

I have a whole bunch of seeds for a veggie garden, but am I too late to start? I think I was suppose to be germinating them all this time...lol. I obviously have no idea on how to start a garden. Am I better off just buying some plants [like a tomato plant] and going from there? Since I really don't know what my soil is like, I was thinking of doing a potted plant kind of garden. Can I buy all different vegetables in planting pots? If so, where can I buy them? Help!

Thanks,
Lori

Ya know Lori...I'm not really sure about ALL seed planting. I don't start my squash (always seeds) until I plant the rest of my garden which in this area is like the middle of May, after the date which is usually known for the last frost.
We have volunteer tomato plants come up every year and we usually see the sprouts of them when we're planting our tomato plants. If we leave the volunteers, they do just fine...but I couldn't tell you for sure when they broke through the soil.

Too late to plant?? Nah.... Heck, it's still a little too early to plant here. I don't plan to plant any of mine until the beginning of May.
We had started a few indoors, but our walls are poorly insulated and it turned super cold and was super windy for a few days and it killed the plants. (Smacking self in forehead.. DUH! Should've moved them to the other side of the house).

Umm....
<jen deep in though>

You can purchase the plants at most any nursery. They are also sold in some of those seed/nursery catalogs. I can getcha a list of the catalogs if ya want - I must have every one of them.
The plants are gonna cost you more than starting from seed, and you'll get more plants from the seeds, but it's up to you. Whatever you think would work best in your situation.

Okay, so guess I can still start my veggies inside, right? The last time I tried to germinate, I did it too early and they got ruined by the cold air near the window. I'm really not good at this stuff at all, but every year I say I am going to have a vegetable garden....and then I don't do a darn thing. I'm telling you, I am going to get something to grow this year! At least I know it isn't too late....thanks!

Lori

Some things do great grown in containers, others not so good. Tomatoes and peppers do well. Also, one thing is that if you want some earlier tomatoes and peppers you might want to buy a few plants and start the others from seeds as it is kinda late to start early tomatoes and pepper from seed. Just a thought.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a tomato plant like you suggested, but then grow other stuff from seeds. The weather is horrible today...cold and raining. So, gardening is out for this weekend I guess.

Lori
