Question Who was your favorite teacher?

You can name your favorite teacher ever, or favorite junior high or high school teacher, whatever.

I'm not going to name his full name, just what we called him by and that was Mr. Clifton. He was my 9th grade geography and senior year government teacher (civics? what was it called? it's been so long ) He also coached wrestling after classes. I was not on the wrestling team. Mr. Clifton was a big guy, not very tall, but big! And he often gave "the look." You know the look you get from your parents when you disappoint them? He had it down pat. He also looked mean, intimidating, and unapproachable. Looks can be deceiving.

He was a sweetheart! He truly cared about his students. If your grades weren't up to par, he'd let you know it without making you feel like an idiot as some teachers could. If he'd sense things weren't right, maybe if someone wasn't quite "themselves" that day, he'd take you aside and ask if everything was all right and let you know that if you needed to talk, he was there. However, he wasn't pushy or persistant. He just laid it out that the door was open whenever you needed him.

This man also had a great sense of humor. If he caught people passing out notes in class, he'd walk right up to them, ask for the note and would proceed to read it to the entire class! He'd oftentimes make things up to make the note more scandalous. LOL So I thought I'd give him some real juice. I wrote a note and passed it to my friend just when I saw him looking in my direction. He took it and read it aloud, "Mr. Clifton is the best teacher I've had. I'm not just saying that. He's nice, he's smart and HE'S SOOOO HANDSOME." You should have seen him turn several shades of red. It was quite a sight. LOL I'm soooooo bad.

I wish all teachers could be like him.

I have two favorites, both in grade school. One was Mrs. Peterson who taught penmanship and history. She made it all fun and interesting because we had to draw a map of every country we studied. We spent a lot of time doing circles and angled lines in order to teach us good handwriting.

The other was Miss Trewartha and I have her to thank for making me enjoy English class and proper grammar. We also had spelling bees which made that class a lot of fun besides teaching us something.

Actually, I enjoyed most of grade school--art, music, but I didn't like and still don't like math or anything to do with numbers!

I also have two faves...my middle school band teacher, Mr. Schure. He pushed me to be my best and as a result, I went very far with my music. He stuck with me through high school, even though he wasn't my teacher, came to my graduation party and to this day we're still in touch. He's the true definition of a teacher and is a true mentor and friend to me.

My second favorite teacher is Mr. Zurflu (Zurf as we called him). He was my high school English teacher. Although I sat in he class and wrote poetry, I got all my homework done and passed all my tests with flying colors. It is because of him that I am a published poet. I called him last month after locating him via the net and thanked him for being such an influential part of my life. He wouldn't take any credit though. That's just like him...always giving us kids the pride

God bless teachers!!!

Mr Gonzales, he was my 12th grade Gov. And Eco. teacher . He made the class so fun. And he always cared about the students and where we were headed in life and tried to kept us on the right track.

Mr. Johnson was our Current Events/Social Science Teacher and sponsor of the Debate Team! I remember kids just going on and on and he would shake his head and say "Sometimes a Jacka$$ is just an a$$. Meaning sometimes we look to much into what people are saying.

and Monsignor McGee gave me this poem at a funeral

People are of two kinds, and he
Was the kind I'd like to be.
Some preach their virtues, and a few
Express their lives by what they do;
That sort was he. No flowery phrase
Or glibly spoken word of praise
Won friends for him. He wasn't cheap
Or shallow, but his course ran deep,
And it was pure. You know the kind.
Not many in life you find
Whose deeds outrun their words so far
That more than what they seem, they are.

That's an easy one. My former Algebra teacher at college. Bonnie is such a sweet person. She really makes you want to learn, she is caring, really nice to talk with, I can't say enough nice things about her. She will make the time for her students. I've never met a teacher quite like her. I wish all teachers were just like her. In fact, I wish more people in the world were like her. She doesn't have a mean streak in her body, always smiling, very upbeat, just being around her makes you feel really good inside.

I have 2 also.

Mrs. Galyean: 4th, 5th, and 6th grade English. She knew when I was bored and getting ready to get in trouble. She had a knack for that...and a knack for giving me extra assignments that were interesting. I don't think I got extra credit for those, though. Not that I needed it. Back then, and A was an A...lol.

Dr. Hoggard: College French. How that poor woman understood some of us with EXTREME Texas accents...lol. I butchered French pronounciation worse than American She always found time for me when I needed extra assistance. Not many professors could be bothered....

Edited to add: I can't believe Dr. Taylor slipped my mind She was my favorite English professor of all time. She was my advisor, mentor, and fav person I need to hunt her up.

Mrs. Pickens....big lovable black woman all the way!!!
She's one of those people you wish were related to you in some way..Aunt, G. Aunt...doesn't matter. She was my 2nd. grade teacher..wait..maybe it was 3rd...any how, in those days teachers didn't have to worry about huggin' on a child..it never failed, she had a hug any time you wanted one and she was always more than happy to receive them. I saw her a few years ago at my old elem school and daaaaang...she didn't look much different. Still wore the bold colored clothing and flat heeled shoes. Ok, her hair had a little gray streaked through it, but I would bet mine was more gray...LOL! She was just the coolest.

Then I'd have to say my Govt. teacher in HS, she was a real witch a lot, but for some reason I loved her..LOL! I think it was because I really wanted to impress her so I tried even harder.

Oh shoot...then there was my College Prep English teacher...she just understood what I was trying to get across in my writing and I always appreciated that.

My favorite was Mary Williams. She was a grade school principal when I was in a Catholic elementary school. She took me under her wing when my parents were going through their divorce. It was an awful mess and sometimes violent.

But, she was a remarkable woman and to this day I still credit her with being an integral part of molding me into who I am today.

No idea where she is.. but I'm sure she is making a difference somewhere.
