Baffled My Grandfather died today...

My grandfather died today. My sister just called me. She said my dad went over to his house to check on him and found him lying across the bed.

This doesn't come as any surprise to us. His health and mental state has been pitiful the past year or so. My parents said he hasn't been eating anything and he's been found daily in the floor under his bed for the past two weeks - He said he was working on cars all day! (my grandfather was a mechanic) Many of you have heard some of the stories of my Grandfather's mis-adventures. We tried many times to have him put in a home, but between his refusal and a judge who declared him fully competant, it never worked out.

My Grandmother is still in a Nursing home. I'm told she's doing well there. She's still not with the "program" but her health has improved. I doubt she'll have any idea who my Grandfather even was.

My first reaction to this is "Thank God". It's not that I'm happy he's gone, it's just more of a relief sort of thing. It'll probably "hit" me later. My mother says they're planning a funeral for Saturday, so dh, the kids & I will be heading down to Virginia probably Friday and we'll most likely be there for Easter.

Awwwwwww Jen, I'm so sorry hun!
I know what a roller- coaster you have been on with your grandfather.

My Nana suffered from Alzheimer's for close to 10 yrs, extremely hard on the family.
We loved her DEARLY, she was indeed the Matriarch of the family.
Towards the end many of us said that (and it killed us to say it) we wish God would just take her already.......She wasn't living, she was merely existing!

I feel for you sweetie, I really do!
Must be very hard, especially with being pregnant (those darn hormones!) and all.
Please know that you are not alone, we're here for you........always!

Hugs,
Naomi

Jenn, I'm so sorry about your Grandfather's passing, but I also understand what you mean about it being somewhat of a relief. It's so awful to see someone you love deteriorate like that. I'm sure it will all hit you when you are actually at the funeral. (((Jenn)))

So sorry to hear of your family's loss!

I understand what you mean though - I've followed his many mis-adventures that you've reported on! Sounded like his mental health was steadily going downhill.

He now lives in Peace.

oh sweetie, I am so sorry. My first thought when I read the title to your post was "I wonder if this was the grandparent that was doing that bizarre and dangerous behaviour."

((((((((((((big hug)))))))))))))))))
I can imagine you have real mixed emotions right now. You know I am here for ya.

Gosh Jen, I'm sorry to hear that. I remember you telling us about your grandpa. It's hard losing a family member.
