right wing pundit leaves NYC over smoking ban, booze taxes

from the NY Post:Outta here
CONSERVATIVE pundit Ann Coulter is so upset by Mayor Bloomberg's Tali-ban on smoking, she's moved to Miami. "[Bloomberg] is wrecking New York City and I didn't want to pay for his fascist smoking police . . . Soon he'll be mandating that New Yorkers have a glass of milk and engage in calisthenics every day," Coulter fumed. "He seems to imagine that New Yorkers were drawn to that city for the clean living . . . I'm not sure even [former mayor John] Lindsay could have come up with something so breathtakingly stupid. Reduced bar business means reduced tax revenues means Ann-Pays-More. So I'm gone."

But, she can still smoke, just as long as it's not in bars or restaurants. Well...maybe she'll prefer Miami, they've revamped it quite a bit. It's pretty upscale now. I've never been, but I've seen photos. Looks pretty nice.

I've been there, I know just what you mean about NYC. I stayed at a girlfriend's apartment in the city, woke up, went outside and it looked like there was fog for miles. She said, "No, that's just the pollution". How gross is that?

I DISagree with you 110%.

Big surprise, huh?

Go Ann!!!!!!!!!!! Go Ann!!!!!!!!!

I don't know why the anti-smokers of the world think they are so much better than the smokers....like what THEY want is all that matters.... They want the whole world to be smoke-free. Evidently I made a mistake in being happy with smoking and non-smoking sections.....since that accomodates everyone.....I should have fought for ALL smoking.... I think I need to go BACK to smoking...... *sigh*

I hate the smell of smoke, plain and simple. I'm glad CA has laws against smoking in restaurants.

Well, I guess I do want the whole world to be smoke-free. Not because I think I am any better, but because I think it's healthier and better for the world. I don't think it's fair that smokers can inflict second-hand smoke (documented as unhealthy and causes illness) on others. Smoking and non-smoking sections do not accomodate everyone. They only segregate sections within the same room.

Nate, is it such a bad thing to want smokers to smoke only among other smokers?

Still luv ya....

I hate to be around smoke too.
But, Penn and Teller did a show about second hand smoke on their show "Bull$h!t."
Here is a link with a video if your interested.

No...it isn't such a bad thing to want smokers to smoke with other smokers....that is what smoking sections are for....but since I guess that is not good enough for the anti-smokers of the world, there should be separate restaurants, bars, etc..... But then the anti-smokers would be bellyaching because there would be somewhere that would allow smoking and they would feel unwelcome.....not that they care whether smokers feel unwelcome anywhere. The world will NEVER be smoke free!!! I'm just tired of the close-mindedness of this place....it's my way or the highway mentality.....I've just about reached my limit. As you already know...one of the side-effects of quitting smoking is that I no longer keep my mouth shut

Loca...I can understand....although, I personally get quite ill from other people's perfume....why don't they ban that stuff.....or at least make it a law not to take a bath in the stuff.....lol...And, there are a few people around town....let's just say they need a good bar of soap....guess we need to ban them too.....*sigh*

Luv you guys, too...even though we disagree... I've turned into a "w"itch now.....so there's no shutting up....lmao

You will get no arguments from me. I HATE when people swim in perfume. Are they THAT stinky? My MIL is guilty of doing that. We can be sitting in the living room and she's in her bedroom and we can still smell it. She does it so it can last throughout the day I think. It's really too much.

There are a certain few fragrances.....Escape by Calin Klein.....and anything that smells similar.....will absolutely make me so sick to my stomach. I don't know what it is about that fragrance.

Yeah...I wonder when they use THAT much fragrance.....if they are trying to hide not taking a shower?

Some of the local businesses, including the post office....have cans of heavy duty air fresheners that they spray after certain people leave.....*sigh*

I for one agree with a smoking ban in public places - specifically restraunts or other "family" places (bowling alleys).

It doesn't matter if they have seperate sections, it seems if there is any type of smoking section, you leave smelling like smoke.

My brother and his girlfriend smoke, but when we go out to dinner they smoke outside before and after dinner.

I won't take my kids to the bowling alley unless it's on a "smoke-free" night. And sadly enough, my boys will probably never be allowed to stay at my brother's house unless they stop smoking. Bronson has allergies and there's no way I'm going to have him in a house of someone who smokes. When we went to visit my dad's family, I had them come visit us at our hotel, because I knew how much they smoked in their house.

People have a right to smoke . . . but businesses also have a right to not allow it.

Restraunts - I totally agree with (you should be able to keep from smoking for an hour or so). But bars are another thing. But then again, it could be because I don't go to bars, so I don't care what goes on there.

I get migraines, and smoke can trigger them, so it really is a health issue for me and my family, not a "I'm better than you" issue.

Oh, and I TOTALLY agree about the perfume deal. I mentioned in another post, if I can smell you from 5 feet away, you're wearing too much! There's a gal that delivers stuff to our office, and I swear she must swim in the stuff. I always end up opening a window when she leaves - even if it's 20 below zero. Sure, it's nice to smell pretty, but the whole idea is to smell nice for those who get close to you, not a whole room of people!
