Question Do you feel you should be told if a sex offender moves into your neighborhood?

I feel they deserve a second chance, however, if I had children, I'd want to know so that I could protect my child, just in case there was a remote possibility that they'd try something again.

Yes I definetely do. Alot of people seem to think that all Sex Offenders are listed on the registry on the internet and other public lists. However they are only level 3 that the pictures are posted for. I know somebody who is on it at Level 2 and he is not listed. At least in New York State that's the way it is. I think the entire list should be posted like that. I also think people who have been involved should get advance notice ahead of the general public. These kids that have been victims should not be left to hear about because some school sent out the letter sooner than others.

YES!!!! NO second chances...that "second chance" could be my child and then instead of the pervert being in jail it would be me in jail for beating him/her to death with a baseball bat!

MOST DEFINATELY!! Even if I didn't have kids, I'd still feel that way. But I have two little girls, and I would do anything to protect them.

Yes should be told. Sex-offender forfeited his/her right to privacy by doing what he/she did...just consider it part of their sentence when convicted of that type of crime.

I voted undecided...but may want to change that after I talk it out here...lol.

Convicted sex offenders...could be ANY sex crime, from internet porn to child molestation. Not all sex offenders go after children.

This made me think of other convicted criminals...if we insist on being informed about sex offenders, shouldn't we also be informed of OTHER types of violent offenders? Why just sex? At what point do we draw the line of necessary information? What about the convicted drug dealers/manufacturers? And even scarier (to me) the offenders that pled down to a lesser crime. Even though we might be informed of a "porn" crime, for instance, what if it was pled down from a truely violent crime?

And how would you protect your child or yourself if a known offender moved into your neighborhood? And what if, God forbid, you or your child were to be a victim of a violent crime, and everyone automatically assumed it was the convicted criminal? And it wasn't? Everyone would be so caught up in being sure it was the known offender, that the REAL offender could get away...or have time to commit MORE acts. By listing known offenders, those who haven't been convicted could very easily use that information to commit crimes, KNOWING he/she could probably get away with it.

I know...I tend to go to the extreme. But it's just the way my mind works. I'm interested in hearing answers to my "out there" questions. Maybe it will help me become more decisive...lol.
