Hubby's uncle passed last night...

Chris's uncle David passed away last night...He was 46 years old....


When David was 23 years old, he was hit by a Mack truck while he was riding his motorcycle. At first they didn't think he was going to live but he slowly pulled back from it....his brain started to swell so they had to put a shunt in it and because of all of his injuries etc., the shunt somehow ended up getting infected causing him to have seizures....slowly but surely he made it back to where he could walk and talk again but he was severely brain damaged, up until 4 months ago when he went into the coma, he had the mind of an 8 year old and still had seizures...but he was here and doing the best he could...he lived on having to take a handful of medication every 6 hours but he was here and for a while he was strong.

About 2 years ago, David started to slowly decline in health...it started with little things, even a sniffle would cause David to have seizure after seizure...then his legs grew weak and he couldn't walk anymore...then he had to go to wearing diapers....then he couldn't speak as well anymore.....and then about 4 months ago he went into a coma....

Chris's grandmother and family made the decision to take him off of the machines about 2 almost 3 weeks ago...and miraculously he kept on breathing!! we really thought he was going to pull through! David has shown amazing strength at times and has pulled out of comas before...unfortunately this was not the case this time...chris's mom called in tears about 6:30 this morning and gave us the bad news....

David absolutely LOVED gavin and skylar..when we would go down to nc and visit over weekends and when chris was gone out to sea we'd go stay with chris's grandma and David and his eyes would light up on sight of gavin and skylar...He held them when they were babies and dried their tears as much as any of our family, and to gavin David was just like a big ole kid and they would talk and play for hours...David just loved to be around these two and HOW do i tell them that uncle david is GONE?

it is a very sad day in my home, chris's grandma just called and asked him to be a pallbearer and that's when chris broke down...that's when it hit him...

please pray for my husband, my children, and my husband's family so that they can get through this...he really was a tremendous light in our family and now that light is gone....

I love you David, you're going home....we will miss you more than you would ever have known.

Your story was very touching and points out the value of every human being, even one diminished in capacity by a horrible accident. I will say a prayer for your whole family. Rest assured that David is in a peaceful place and no longer injured in any way.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I cannot believe how much David endured in his lifetime. I know this is so hard for all of you. Your post really moved me. I'm glad your children had David in their lives.
