No matter how bad the economy, I won't let a job push me around

my part time job is trying to scam me into working Saturday. It really ticked me off. I went into to the store after my day job on Monday to buy some stuff at the store I work p/t (not to work) and the idiot started running her mouth about working Saturday, doing some inventory bull****. I point blank told them I'm only supposed to work Thurs and Fri unloading the damn truck. I understand if the truck is delayed, like last week because of snow, then I worked Saturday, thats cool. I straight up said in front of customers, "What is it about these crap McJobs like this, where they try to monopolize your life. Didn't we have a deal about my position being truck unloading on Thurs/Fri. What does this other inventory stuff have to do with me. Didn't I verify the parameters of this position with you 3 or 4 times before agreeing to work here."
I may compromise and work a couple hours Saturday. Tommorow (Thurs) afternoon, when I go in to unload that truck, I'm gonna point blank say that we need to straighten up this Saturday thing, or I quit right now. Then they'll be screwed, they have 2 girls there, neither can barely lift anything, and one has to run register. I will force them to address the issue, or screw them. I can get another side job.

Mark my words, I am heading West by the end of April. I've had it with the East Coast attitudes. At least my day job, now its settled into a routine, I have it under control. I actually got my evaluation today, it was a good grade. I'll hold onto my day job, put up with their bs, then just go through as many side jobs as needed before leaving Frederick. I'll give my day job my proper 2 week notice, they'll be my reference. any other side bull****, I don't care. You only need one reference for a given time period.

At least where I work, if they ask me to work Saturdays and I decline, it's no big deal. They keep asking, I keep saying no thanx. It might reflect on my job review 'cause working OT is an important thing to the bosses there, but I'll take my chances. I just can't do it, I have schoolwork to study on the weekends, my only time to do it, plus, I don't want any more problems with my arms like making my tendinitis worse in my shoulder. That's all because of that job, and it'd be plain stupid to want to exacerbate the problem. If I could find another job tomorrow, I'd be there. I can understand the people who need the money, that have to work Saturdays.

That's not right with your PT job. If they even remotely saw the possibility of you having to work any Saturdays, they should have said it to you up front, before you even took that job.

its just a McJob. I don't have a car right now, I'm just hustling 3 crap jobs that are in my neighborhood. I know its temporary. I don't get how people work at places like this for years on end.they act like you should rearrange your schedule, like you should care because they're understaffed. Screw them, why should I go out of my. I had jobs in the past, where they were cool if you needed a day off, then in return I was cool if they needed help or me to rearrange. the crap I have now, they don't give you any breaks, I give them none

there's two things going on here, on further reflection

1.the economy is bad, so most employers in all job categories are getting cockier towards their employees.

2.these are some of the lowest level jobs I've had since high school

it would have been more accurate to say "DC" attitude or "yuppie suburb" attitude

actually, where I live is the northern suburbs. I'm in an area that used to be boondocks, but now has more development. It has some good points, a historic district, but its a fluke I ended up here. Under different circumstances it might have worked out, but I was aiming further south or west anyway.
The District itself is cool to visit, of course the monuments and awesome Smithsonian museums, but also some cool clubs, restaurants, shopping, etc

FLINT is an unknown quantity
ATTITUDE

FLINT has a bad attitude on all coasts and provinces. FLINT can afford to do so since he has no problem bribing officials and using recondite statements with all employers, clients, and other non-fashionable glitterati of the hoi-polloi.

FLINT understands your grief concerning the job. MCJOBs as you so eloquently put it often are more stressful and less permissive than career-oriented jobs. The fact that you view it as a non-necessary job makes dealing with it even more stressful for you because your "eyes are opened" thus you cannot abide being given orders by low-class or mean-based potentates. Continuing in this state will yield only a deep draft of counter-despair between the potholes of your contemporary history

FLINT recommends you pursue a career that will please you as soon as possible, Life is too Short. FLINT hopes you find what you are looking for.

FLINT enjoys the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the DC area and it is definitely a "world class" city. FLINT is not a native of DC and has lived in a plethora of locales around the world. DC is not a nice place to live unless you have copious amounts of cash and can "buy" your way out of some of the dystopias passing as suburbs that line the outlying areas of the community.

Ta!

I don't work on Saturday for religious reasons so I would do something totally different from you.

Lots of jobs are doing stuff like that now. They want you to sacrafice your life for them but they don't give you any reason to do so. I had a job that was p/t for extra money and they were the worst!! They had the boys schedule and the girls schedule. Girls and boys could not work in the same area and the girls were only allowed to do girl stuff. They would schedule me during the day to do groups and stuff and if the group cancelled the would send me home with no pay. It was a pay by the hour job and they did not work that way. The job sucked and I had to quit. I was not going to be treated like a baby. They hired at any age so there were some young kids there but because of my age I could work a larger range hours and do more things. But I got tired of that!!
