| I can honestly say this because I filed bankruptcy 12 years ago got everything wiped clean i had a terrible car accident and a shady lawyer and I had no choice. anyways they say bankruptcy is wiped off your file after 7 years..BULL its been 12 and I still have trouble getting loans, credit cards whatever because of it. Every time i am turned down its because of former bankruptcy I call the companies and they inform me It will always be on your record and some companies may take that risk with you but we cant.....Fortunatly I was able to finance my Van through a bank. How? i have no clue but am thankful.. Please think real hard before making a descision like this Check with all your other options first...You'll be in my thoughts and Prayers.God Bless __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links. | The friend I was mentioning earlier in this thread did begin chapter 7. The person is wiping 28K of CC debt and won't need a car or a house for the next 3 years anyway. Not sure what I would have done myself, but this did seem to be the best option for my friend. It will be all over in about a week. |

| Just to clear up a little mis-information on this board ( I know THAT is hard to believe, mis-information - on DOD - WOW). The laws vary, but bankruptcies can stay on your record up to 10 years, not 7 years. These "Not for Profits" that you see everywhere are "not without profit". They counsel you, say "Poor dearie" and turn you over to a "for profit" center that arranges your debt re-payment schedule. They give you a lump sum payment per month and then insist that you pay your first month payment to them as a donation. Vultures are out there who will take advantage of you and it is hard to tell the vultures from the doves. One place you can trust is Consumer Credit Counseling Services (CCCS). Check your yellow pages. It isn't going to be pretty, but these people WILL work with most of your best interest at heart. Also, any major purchases within the prior 90 days before bankruptcy probably will not be discharged. So if you bought that big screen TV last month, forget it! Now, this is what is called the the useful exchange of information. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links.
