| I would really say it depends on the girl. Also, it's better to let them start wearing it when they want, and TEACH them how to wear it. Otherwise they'll get to school and gob the stuff on! I started wearing makeup in 6th grade. Girls really are wearing makeup early, but I don't see the harm in it. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Call me old fashion (I don't mind), I'll say Sweet Sixteen. That's the age she's absolutely changing from a girl into a lady! And with the right teaching and guidance, she'll be able to handle herself better when she has to confront 'horny jerks' or should I say 'dogs'! |

| i'd say at the start of puberty... but show her how to wear it...i agree with that!...that way she wont look like a clown...and teach her that less is more __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | It really depends on the girl. I give my dd a little bit at each year, so that there are a few rights to passage. I believe, and have shared with her, that it is very feminine. This year I started letting my 12 yo wear eyeshadow. She wears it sort of like eyeliner. She has frosted pink, and frosted blue, and she wears both of them very subtlety. She has been allowed to wear colored lip gloss for 2 years. At 13 I will probably let her use some pressed powder for concealing. I think that is as far as we will go for a while, probably mascara at 16. So in raising my girls I have tried to embrace femininity, while also teaching modesty, and how (I beleive) that is part of femininity. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Hmmm...I'm thinking I was 13 when Mom told me I could "officially" wear some make-up...it was only a light eyeshadow tho (to start with)...I think I was always allowed to wear lipgloss. I was probably 15 when I wore the whole kitnkaboodle. I wasn never really much of a make-up wearer tho...I was honestly one of the kids who believe "less is best"...most dramatic thing I wore was eyeliner. __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | I agree with Mayfly. I don't have girls, myself, but I think lip gloss from age 10-12, then from 12-14 some light eyeshadow, I think I was wearing concealers or foundation & mascara also by age 15, but my mother took the time and showed me how to use it properly so it looked natural. I've never used a lot, just enough to highlight the positive & conceal the little flaws.....This is the key. I have a step-niece whose mother never gave her instruction on how to apply makeup and I am sorry to say, the girl looks "crusty". She just puts way toomuch stuff on her face. She just turned 16, but looks like she belongs on a corner somewhere. My sister has tried to give her some guidance, but, of course, she gets "you're not my mom" Most of the girls in my sons 6th grade class had lip gloss & some type of eye shadow on in the class pictures. So, as long as you show them how, I think that there's nothing wrong with beginning by age 12 |

| I was 13 when I was allowed to start wearing foundation only.......then I got to slowly add the rest. My parents hated the eyeshadow and eyeliner so I was 16 before I got to wear that.....and even then it had to be light or they would not let me out of the house!! lol So basically......once they hit high school I think it is ok to start them wearing make-up as long as it is done right. I was a freshman when I started wearing make-up. I have a niece who just turned 13 but has been wearing make-up since she was 11 and I have to tell ya she does NOT know how to apply it!! She looks like something off the street corner. ![]() __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | I think kids are ready when they ask. When they do ask, you should teach them how to properly apply makeup and how to take it off and clean their face. If they don't clean their face before bed ground the child from wearing makeup. If they know that wearing makeup requires more responsibility they might not wear as much to begin with. If you tell them abslutely no makeup they will just use their friends makeup at school. They can also get all kinds of germs and stuff from their friends makeup. I think it is better to know than to not know.

| My girls were both 13, and allowing it in this house was never an issue. I trust in my girls good judgement but if they should go astray I am always here to guide them back lol. I was lucky, they both learned how to tastefully apply makeup so it almost looks natural (hate nothing more then a face that looks like it's been painted) and they don't wear foundation (which I am dead against on a child) But I would say it really does depend on the child, some mature faster then others. And they really should be taught how to apply it properly. |
