Re: What age do you think it's OK for a girl to wear makeup?

Okay, IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS. I'm going to be honest, I'm 12 and am a girl. My mom doesn't care what I wear, but to tell you the truth, I don't cake it on-EVER! I hit puberty at 10! 10! So, it makes sense that I have some acne..... okay, a lot. And I'm honestly surprised that some people think that conealer should come last! PLEASE parents, have some sympathy! NO ONE likes pimples! Let them put concealer when actually needed. Pimples are horrid and I think once you have them you should first get something to keep them under control- a simple product, clearasil or clean & clear is around $3.00 and or cheaper, and all it takes is one little itty-bitty dab two nights in a row and KAZAAM! It's gone! So I think if you're old enough to have pimples, you're old enough to wear concealer. Get them one small compact of powder or a small tube of concealer once a month, imo, and maybe give them some responsibility: have them make it last! Have them keep track of it so they're not using it in huge amounts, piling it on, and using up 10 sticks of it each week! Lip gloss is another thing....... Anything that's clear, and moisturizing imo should also be worn around 11-12+. Winter is very drying to your lips and again, NO ONE likes chapped lips! Get them a little CLEAR stick of chap stick! They get a litttttttttle bit of shine without being too bold, and they have healthy lips! In terms of any other make-up- I don't think at any age you should pile it on! That's looks a little cheap to me..... but eye liner or eye shadow or even actual colored lipstick/gloss should be worn around the time they start dating (around 16 give or take a year) or if they go to a middle school dance when they're 13 or so (maybe some light eyeshadow or light lipgloss). But I honestly think that once they get pimples they should have concealer and around that time they should be able to wear some clear lipgloss or chapstick!

Re: What age do you think it's OK for a girl to wear makeup?

I was not allowed to wear makeup, until I left my parents home, which was at 18, and that is when I started wearing makeup, I remember at 17 I would secretly wear eye shadow, that I brought with my allowance...

In a way it is good not to let a young child wear make up so young because their skin wont age fast, now I see the benefits of abstaining from makeup, because now I look like a 17 year old...

Calli just turned 10, I told her she can wear neutral shades of makeup at 11 in middle school.

I wear makeup daily (and used to give my friends makeovers wayyyy back when), so my girls generally know what is acceptable for day wear and what is acceptable for night time makeup... and that just by using basic neutral shades, you can highlight, accent and play-up your features without looking overtly made up or garrish.

And yeah it depends on the girl too... I know I can trust Calli with makeup, but if Katie had her way she'd be looking like Mimi on the Drew Carey show!!!

Re: What age do you think it's OK for a girl to wear makeup?

I would say 16. But personally, I dont think makeup is necessary for young girls/teens. There's not really any problem to cover. Once they start, they won't be able to live with them. And it's bad for their skin. I was obsessed-ish with makeup when i was 14, but then I stopped because I dont want bad skin.

But I think light makeup is ok, as long as they don't have tons of foundation on.
