Do you send postcards on vacation?

Just wondering, because my DH and I send postcards to our closest relatives, and our kids usually send one to their best friends, whenever we're on vacation.

My DS's best friend got back from a 2 week vacation and DS was disappointed he never heard from the friend. It surprised me when the mom remarked that they never buy or send postcards.

So, even though I'm on vacation and getting away from it all, I think it's fun to show everyone back home what we're up to. It's also fun to secretly send our kids a card so they have a surprise when we get home.

Some people might prefer to mentally distance themselves from everything while they're vacationing, I suppose, so maybe that's why they're not interested in communicating to anyone back home.

So...do you send postcards?

I sure do, and let me tell you how I did it the last time I went somewhere, which was to Las Vegas, to play with some of my DOD buddies........

I bought the postcards the very first day we were there. I had a great time, 'wish you were there' and everything, and after I got home, I wrote out the postcards, stamped them, put them in an envelope and sent them all to:

Postmaster
Las Vegas, NV

And asked him/her kindly to please send them out.

Sometimes I just have to do things the hard way. *sigh*

I think it is FUN to send and receive postcards! BUT I also think it can be a hassle....more hassle than it is worth. I just don't want to spend my vacation concerned with buying, writing, and sending postcards (from myself or all the kids). If it works out that we run into a postcard stand...fine...we'll buy some. If it turns out that we have some free time to write then we will. My kids do like to send them and now that they are able to do their own on their own I think it's ok. I just don't want to miss out on something because we are trying to send postcards.

I guess I like to buy them for souvenirs more than I care to send them.

If I have time I send postcards, yes. This last trip I took, I got sick, had a high fever, so I didn't feel like buying or sending any, but I did send one to my mom and sister and BIL.

Thanks for all the responses!

I posted this before I went on a trip and, of course, I ended up buying about 10 postcards to save (rationale: they're better photos than I can ever take!) and I mailed out an additional 3 to friends/family. All this for a trip just a few hours' drive from home . I'm hopeless

During one of my DH's business trips to Australia, he opened the binder in his room (the one that is typicaly filled with hotel info and stationery), and took out the hotel's postcard. It had been filled out several weeks prior and apparently forgotten. It was from a fellow dad on a business trip to his young son back in the States. DH was touched by how sweet the note sounded so he stamped and mailed it. Hopefully the dad and son appreciated the RAOK
