Question Real or Instant Potatoes?

I know.......what a question!! lol But the other night when I was fixing supper hubby came into the kitchen and wanted to know if I was fixing real potatoes or instant!! That is not something he usually asks........but I guess the reason was because I bought some generic mashed potatoes a few weeks ago and they were HORRIBLE!!! ACK!! I usually buy the Betty Crocker brand but in a hurry I grabbed the first box I saw. BAD mistake!! lol Anyway.......of course it was the real ones this time. But it takes so long to peel them and boil them and mash them that sometimes I still prefer the instant kind. Can't beat the time it saves!!

So........which do you prefer and fix?!

I'm fine with either. But my husband WILL NOT eat instant potatoes.

When I was growing up, my mom only ever made instant, and I preferred instant. I think I preferred them because I never had REAL mashed potatoes! Somewhere along the line, when I got married, I guess, I made real mashed potatoes and there is no comparison............now I HATE instant. I usually put lots of butter when I make my mashed potatoes, and most of the time I add sour cream or cream cheese. My family LOVES them that way!

I especially like real mashed potatoes if they have little lumps in them. I like lumps in my Cream of Wheat, too. LOL

Real. I prefer to buy them at Costco where they are huge! That way you can peel several large ones very quickly instead of those teeny ones...like the Buy1 get 1 bags I bought...great price, but too much of a pain to peel!!

If I'm pressed for time I'll grab the instant, but don't beat the dickens out of them or they turn to mush! Nothing beats the real thing though!

Real if they're just plain mashed potatoes. If they're some fancy kind with a bunch of ingredients I prefer instant if I'm cooking. That's only because I'm not a very good cook!
