Duct tape sales rise amid terror fears

werent we just discussing duct tape? better go buy some more!! this is part of an article i found at cnn........

On Tuesday, less than 24 hours after U.S. Fire Administrator David Paulison described a list of useful items, stores in the greater Washington, D.C. area reported a surge in sales of plastic sheeting, duct tape, and other emergency items.

These items, Paulison said, can be helpful after a biological, chemical or radiological attack.

A Lowe's hardware store in Alexandria, Virginia, said every roll of duct tape has been sold. Another Alexandria Home Depot store reported sales of duct tape tripled overnight.

"Everything that was on that newscast, we are selling a lot of it," said Rich Pierce with a Home Depot in the D.C. area.

In his advisory, Paulison recommended that households have on hand three days worth of water and food; an emergency supply kit for both home and automobile; radios with extra batteries; and plastic sheeting and duct tape to seal windows and doors

the thing is, number one, you cant tape everything up....your vent system on the furnace wouldnt work and you would suffocate!!! secondly, how long would you be planning on staying taped up in the house? you would have to come out sooner or later.....

Tasker that is what we said lol. We = my bf and I. My only plan is if something happens that can hurt me I will go the opposite direction of it. If I am mean to die then it means it is my time and there will be nothing I can do about it.

Does this remind anyone of what happened after the Bay of Pigs?

Don't know where that stray thought came from.

If I buy any Duct tape in the near future it's because I ran out of the "repair all" tape..not to build my own plastic bubble

And this is new how???? Here in Maine we have weeks worth of supplies thanks to our ice storms - I'll bet folks in Florida have 'hurricane pantrys'. As for the plastic/tape route, there is no way to totally seal a home without killing the occupants. In the 50's we had regular drills in school to 'duck and cover' and find safety hiding under a desk in case of nuclear attack. IMHO, tape and plastic is about as effective and I think it is reprehensible that any US official should think the American public would swallow such *expletive deleted by writer* proposal.

AHHH - vented - feel better!

LMAO....

I don't know how effective the bubbles would be anyway. Too easy to poke holes in them

Maybe it is the governments way of making people feel like they are prepared. Maybe the next suggestion is to use the duct tape to tape our nose and mouth up so won't breathe in the toxic chemicals.

I heard on the national news tonight that duct tape and plastic won't do you any good. What you should do is turn off all your ventilation systems completely.

Personally, I'm not going to feed into the frenzy that the media is trying to build. But I am going to make sure my kids don't watch the evening news anymore because it's scaring the crap out of them!
