Fibromyalgia

Does anyone else on the boards have this? What do you do for it? I was diagnosed almost 10 years ago, have read tons of literature, and it still seems like every day it's something different. I'd appreciate any thoughts you may have. I'm becoming very frustrated with my current doctor and pain medication..it never seems to be enough. Then, to top it all off, on the days when I do manage to get a dr appt, I have little or no syptoms happening.....aaarrgghh

Unhappy I Also have it

I was diagnosed 3 years ago after I had a hysterectomy it laid dormant until then,I know how frustrated you are. My doctor is trying very hard but nothing makes it go completely away.

First thing you should do is keep a daily diary, this way when you get to the doctors you have everything that has gone on with you written down.

Has your doctor tried any antidepressants?the tricyclic types help some people. I couldn't take them I'm too sensitive and I couldn't function with some and had the "I don't give a ****s" with others.

I take Vicodin on a daily basis, but not alot. I take only a half at one time and usually will take some Ibuprofen with it, this seems to take the bite out of the pain.

I know exercise especially yoga is suppose to help, but getting the energy to get there after working all day is another hassel, I'm so exhausted I would rather sleep.I'm currently looking for a Treadmill so I wont have any excuses.

No one around me understands this disorder, therefore I'm just being lazy. I hope something works for you.
A local group has contacted me and I think I'm going to give it a try and see what others have to say.

Good Luck to you
and you may email me at my sign on name

Post Count me in.

I have had this all my life but was diagnosed almost 20 years ago (very new at the time).

I have come to live with it fairly well by doing these things:

*I don't take the meds the doctors gave because they turned me into a Zombie. So, I take vitamins, some herbs and aspirin every day. If having a painful day- Aleve.

*I have learned to ignore it. Well, pretty much. This is the best thing I have found. I don't dwell upon it. I have taught my dh not to ask how I'm feeling. If I think about it I realize nothing feels good.

*I keep moving on good days and allow myself to take it easy on days the fatigue is just too much.

But, the best advice I can give you is:
Accept you feel this way, don't stress yourself out over it. Learn to live with it and even ignore it. Do not dwell upon it or it will control you.

you may want to eat more almonds, and/or take magnesium supplements too. In particular the malic form of magnesium can help sometimes

Thumbs up

Yeap!
I very seldom eat much red meat, do eat grains, veggies & fruit.
Snack on almonds, eat Salmon and what you eat does change how you feel with this.

A Possible Different Approach

From what I've read, there is a growing suspicion among some researchers that Fibromyalgia may actually be a symptom of an untreated or undertreated thyroid disorder, usually hypothyroidism. If you've never been tested, ask your doctor to do it. Request Free T3 and T4 results in addition to the basics. Make sure you get the lab's range values and understand what your results mean, no matter how many questions it takes. If you test below average on any results, even if you're not "low" by the values, you may still be subclinically hypothyroid. Unfortunately, your doctor may not be open-minded enough to consider a temporary trial of medication to see if it improves your symptoms, but it can't hurt to ask.

I have a friend who has this and has found that magnetic therapy helps her pain. She wears those insoles that have the magnetics in them......she also has the jewelry she wears. She said it is expensive but well worth it.

I know she does some herbs also.
