| Hey Gang, I see that the beast of religious discussion has surfaced at DoD once again. It's no surprise as our spiritual beliefs define who we are and how we choose to live. And many are quite passionate about their spiritual beliefs. I do not hide my beliefs. I am a Christian and find my identity in the object of my faith, but I am not what many would classify as a "religious" man. That might be confusing to you, but thats ok, you don't have to understand. In the past, we have had many difficulties as people explored spiritual matters on the boards. Too often, these discussions turned into combative assaults on other individuals and their beliefs. I have NO problem with healthy debate on topics of religion, politics and cross-stitching ;-) , but not everyone shares this freedom. It would be my deepest wish that those who are unable to discuss without making it personal would not participate in these threads. Unfortunately, discussions like this attract like a moth to the flame. This is the reason I have not created a separate religious discussion forum. So, I appreciate the passion of those of you who would seek to share your faith with others. However, the primary mission of this site is for people to join together in a community setting under the banner of saving money and having fun. If we are not meeting this objective, I may as well shut down the site. For those who really want to hash it out on religion and politics, please use the site I set up especially for this purpose. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] I don't really promote the site, so it is not used much. But you are more than welcome to do so. If you post a topic at Truthsoup, feel free to let others know here and I'm certain many will follow. Thank you for being a part of our little community! | Mayor it sounds good... BUT how does this play out. As an example do you think the thread that was closed that included discussion on Christian Science was rightly locked? Can you explain why or why not? Thanks!

teraberry, i know i myself have TOLD you why those types of posts are watched so closely and you said ok and agreed with me and said you would keep it low key. yet you CONTINUE after you were told about this to post topics that you have been made aware of may incense or hurt people. why you do this i don't know. but let me state here since you seem to be so oblivious to why your post was locked: A PERSON WHO PRACTICES CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MAY HAVE BEEN OFFENDED BY YOU SAYING THEY "LET" THEIR CHILDREN DIE. THEIR WHOLE BELIEF SYSTEM RELIES ON THE FACT THAT GOD WILL HEAL THEM NOT DOCTORS. JUST BECAUSE THEY DO NOT BELIEVE AS YOU DO DOES NOT MAKE THEM WRONG. STATING THAT IT WAS WRONG FOR A CHRISTIAN SCIENCE PERSON TO LET THEIR CHILD DIE IS WHAT GOT YOUR POST LOCKED. IF YOU WANT RESPECT YOU GIVE RESPECT. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. for the record i am not a practicer of c/s, i am catholic, but i respect and tolerate everyone's beliefs and religions. as a moderator, i must make sure that no attacks are made on other members because of their religious beliefs. it is not that religion is banned here, attacking other members or other religions because it is not what you practice is. IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU?

| Yes that's clear to me. What I don't understand is why you would want to defend someone who thinks it is fine to let their children die instead of treating them. I know people have different religious beliefs and you don't want anyone here to be offended. But isn't even this an exception. I mean if there was someone posting here in the time when the Brach Davidians were in that complex in Waco, TX and that person was a Branch Davidian do you think that no one else could challenge their ideas. (If you don't remember many people died in Waco.) I understand when there are grayer areas. I guess I don't see the Christian Science issue as being very gray in terms of kids dying. I don't mean to start up another discussion here on religious stuff. In reality it wasn't even me in the Christian Science thread who posted all the religious doctrinal issues... and even Mayor added to that. Maybe it would be better to move this to the "Ask the Mods" forum or something? __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | It is not a matter of defending them. It is a matter that DOD is NOT for this type of debate or discussion that would offend or become heated. PERIOD CUT AND DRY. That is what Joel just stated in his post, it is his board and he has spoken, it isn't up for debate. If you would like to debate, you can go to Truth Soup, as Joel also asked in his post. AND BTW, it is not a REQUIREMENT that CS Practitioners obstante from Medical Care, nor will they be "excommunicated" if they wish to seek medical intervention. They just feel that you should rely on God to heal as much as possible and most do not seek medical intervention. This form of worship is also common in some (please note I said SOME) sects of Baptist, Fundamentalist and Pentecostal Christianity.

what you may practice in your religion may seem absolutely ridiculous to someone else of another religion. you either respect it and move on or YOU KEEP BRINGING IT UP OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN to either understand it or dissect it and discuss why you believe it is so very wrong because it is not what YOU personally believe in your own path of faith. Mayor has said his peace and has asked us to discuss such issues at truthsoup which is a wonderful discussion board...i post there often and am welcome to any debate...i'd like to see it started up again myself! now, DROP IT, teraberry i don't know how many times it can be explained to you that it is NOT ok to attack any religious belief that does not coincide with your own. dod is a very tolerant place. let's keep it that way.
