SOS!!! How do I set up my internet to have a start page?

Some boy my son is friends with gave my son some links to look at (as a joke- ha ha, no one is laughing), and now my start page is pornographic. I cant let my kids open our IE until I fix it. I dont care what I have for a start page, other than porno or sicko. I thought DOD had a way of making DOD my start page, but when I looked I saw it was to add DOD to my start menu.

Please help! SOS!

Oh, and if things could get worse, a plug-in page pops up too, and if I cancel it out before its loaded, my whole PC shuts down.

go to the tools menu and then internet options...click on use blank page. if you prefer to start with another website, go to that website and then go to tools and internet options and click on use current page...that will change it.

Tasker's method will work, but only after you have gotten into IE. Getting there, IE will proceed to open your (now pornographic) home page and start up the whole pop-up nightmare again.

First, use your 'disk cleanup' function to get rid of any temporary internet files. WITHOUT CONNECTING to the internet, open IE and do as Tasker said, altering your home page. Most likely, the site installed some other hidden goodies on your computer that will cause it to reoccur. Do repeated searches on your hard drive looking for files that start with 'sex', 'xx', 'xxx', 'hot', etc. Delete ones that definitely don't look welcome on your computer. If you've got an antivirus program, run that too. Adaware may not be a bad idea either, but I don't know if it will target porn problems.

Thank you both so MUCH! It worked!

I wasnt sure about the Disk Cleanup, I went to MY Computer then CONTROL PANEL and chose INTERNET OPTIONS and then CONTENT. I chose 0% nudity/etc, and entered a password.

Funny thing though. When I came to reply to you both, the page kept coming up that DOD is not rated, so I had to choose Always Trust This Site and enter my password- twice! I hope I didnt go too far...


And another funny thing. I added DOD as my start page, but when I came onto IE, the page showed as "this email link has become inactive" or something of the sort. I guess I'll need to play around with it.

That works! I was thinking ONLY from the approach of fixing it within IE itself. Fixing it via the control panel was foolproof. Be sure to clean out that trash though (files like 'sex..', 'hot..', etc), because they've set these things up to defeat any changes you make (like choice of home page). Double check your startup programs.

How about keeping track of time on the history part of IE? I know you can view the pages someone went to, but what about time? And can I automatically store passwords?


And yes, I have reasons for asking these questions!!

I'm reasonably certain you can't do that with just IE. It sounds like you need additional software to be able to track that. I may be wrong, but that happens SO infrequently nowadays (me being wrong).

you can also right-click on the ie icon on your desktop to change your start page without opening ie.

I know you can do this with IE. Try opening IE, then going to:
- Tools
- Internet Options
- Security
- Highlight Internet, then click "Custom Level"
- Scroll to the bottom of the list and select "Automatic logon with current username and password" under "User Authentication/Logon"

I think that may be what you're looking for.
