Question Need Help Please, Any Retired Military here?

Does any Military person(s) here have
"SBP" (Survivor Benefit Plan) ?

I've been asking around,
& thought I'd ask here at DoD also.

My dh is retiring soon, from 21 yrs naval service,
we're looking into 'SBP' and I was just wondering
if any other military family here is familiar with it,
and thier thoughts.

TIA (Thanks in Advance)

my hubby was civil service and it has the same retirement option. it costs to have it but the benefit is well worth paying for. you shouldnt have to pay for the option, IMHO, but thats the way its set up. on another similar subject...most people dont know that when you retire from civil service, even though you have paid into social security the same as everyone else, you dont receive the same benefits when you collect SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU WERE A FEDERAL EMPLOYEE!!! there is a slight chance that this may be voted out in the near future and i sincerely hope it is. there is no ethical reason to penalize someone simply for being a federal employee. other people who have a pension and social security arent penalized so why should we be? those benefits are WEP and GHO i think...GHO might not be right but WEP is (windfall elimination provision)....

Thank you tasker for you insight on this.
( I 100% agree with you,
"you shouldnt have to pay for the option".)

Still looking for more info on this matter.

TIA
