Does anyone watch Animal Rescue on TV?

I watched it last night, they rescued a dog, a German Shepard that had over 100 ticks on it. It was just disgusting, such a horrible crime against an animal. The owner claimed she didn't know the dog was sick, but also said she didn't have time to take care of it. The dog was also dehydrated, needed food, also needed a blood transfusion. The ASPCA took the dog, got it signed over to them and it took days to help that dog 'til they got all the ticks off of him. The dog finally had enough energy to play once again, and they were still waiting 'til he got stronger to get him adopted by a good family. I can't even imagine anyone not caring for their animal like that. It was one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

They also had an antique shop that the police locked up for some reason when the owner of it was not there. A cat was stuck inside, apparently they had not seen it. The cat kept coming to the window and people reported it to the ASPCA who came to the rescue. They finally had to call in the NYPD to get the door unlocked as the bolt cutters couldn't cut through the lock. Finally the kitty emerged, scared but OK.

Then there was a squirrel that someone trapped in a cage, it was there longer than was allowed, so the ASPCA came, took the animal to a place more suitable, a park where they had noted some squirrel nests and the little fellow got to run free again. That story just warmed my heart.

What I didn't know, is that in New York City there is a law that says when the temperature is 90 degrees or above in the summer, the drivers of the horse and buggies that are in Central Park have to take the horses back to the carriage house, to protect the horses from the heat, and then when the temp drops, the drivers of those carriages are allowed to take them back to the park again.

It was a really interesting show. Does anyone else watch that?

I watch both Animal Precinct & Animal Cops. I think its terrible how people treat helpless animals. Those shows make me mad when I watch them. I've seen the one with the shepard with all of those ticks. I couldn't believe how many were on that poor dog. There was also an episode on Animal cops were this man had well over 250 cats living in his house. They tried to get as many out as they could and since they were wild & couldn't be adopted, they had to put all of them to sleep. It was nasty in that house. Cat feces everywhere. The ammonia from the urine was so bad, the cops couldn't stay in there very long because it was burning their eyes. And the basement had raw sewege all over the floor. It was hideous. And the guy was living in that house to. I couldn't believe my eyes. I dont understand it. I would never starve my animals or neglect them, thats just plain mean. If you cant properly take care of an animal you shouldn't have one is my opinion.

DH and I watch Animal Precinct and Animal Cops. Some of the stores make me physically sick.
The ASPCA does a wonderful job
Animals are living, breathing creatures. Their so-called owners ought to be treated like that, the SCUM that they are.

3tbear, that dog (if I remember correctly, her name is Sheila) goes on to get well and find a loving home (update show).

Off to give Mikki some extra smooches

Naomi

I have watched it in the past. My kids watch it more often and I know when they are because they are screaming at the TV. Last one I saw had an older woman w/ oodles of cats/kittens..one was so infested with fleas they said she would have died because of blood loss. It showed her get bathed and blood literally could be squeezed from her fur. I honest to God never saw anything like it. I had no idea fleas could do that. I always thought their bites (many) could cause great infection, but nothing like I saw!

I watch them whenever I either remember they are on or I flip channels and see one. Several have put me in tears.

My furbabies are so spoiled and I just can't imagine anyone treating these innocents like that. I truly admire the people who dedicate their lives to rescuing and helping them.

I saw the one with the fleas, too and it was awful.

Naomi, yes, the dog's name was Sheila. I was so happy when the ASPCA helped him. I think the dog realized he was in good hands. At least that story had a happy ending. The lady who owned the dog was arrested.

I can't tell you (here on these boards) what I would have done to that owner

Naomi, the owner of that dog Sheila worked in some kind of convalescent home caring for the elderly. Would you want her caring for your elderly relatives? I doubt I'd want her caring for mine.

That's right! I'd forgotten about that.
Scary, isn't it?
