Update on DD boot camp status

As many of you have probally read in an earlier post my dd had went away to a boot camp to try to get her life on the right track...there has been a couple of you to write her encouraging words and I so much appreciate that and so does Amber she told me she got them and she reads all her mail to help her get through this...so i thought as I get any info I will just post here for those whom might be interested...If anyone else would like to write her an encouraging note just let me know and I will gratefully give you her mailing address....Now on to the Update...Amber was enrolled on Jan 12 and immediatly started a 2week Hard Core Challenge phase AKA **** Week yes just like what you see on TV. at this point of the phase there can be no communication except via mail.. Tha nurse at the academy called me on Thurs night last week to tell me that they was going to take Amber and get her hand x-rayed she had lost her temper and slugged the wall ...The wall won she ended up with two broken bones in her hand the worse part is they waited 24 hours before getting X-rays this is a way to punish her and make her think twice before acting out in Anger again. so with the bundle of nerves I already was this just made it worse....On Sun morning Amber called me what a sigh of relief to hear her voice..she sounded really tired but assured me she will be ok....she wanted to give up several times but chose not to now she has the worst two weeks over I have the certificate. Apprentlly there was a cadet in her platoon causing alot of problems for the whole platoon she had somehow gotten gum laced with drugs through her mail now the mail has to be shaked down and of course this is the girl Amber was after when she chose to hit wall instead. This cadet is no longer a threat they shipped her out.Amber said she was able to make one 5 minute phone call a week for now and has the opprotunity to gain more time she was able to attend a few functions Sunday and really enjoyed it,,,Mon they started testing her for her GED to see what she really needs to work on. she said its real cold and real hard that she hardly has time to even write I told her thats ok just concentrate on getting through the next 20 weeks. so for now thats all i have to report I will keep updated as I am ...I myself am just a bundle of nerves I worry bout her so much o yea she said she has lost 16 pounds so far I am so happy....again thanks so much for your encouragement....

Thumbs up

((((((Airslday))))))

Good for Amber! She seems focused, she needs to keep in mind that there IS light at the end of the tunnel! She WILL walk away a better person in the end! One day, she'll be able to look back and be proud of what she accomplished, the ability to take control of her life.......and WANT to make a change!
Thanks for the update, please continue to keep us posted!

(on a side note) WOW, 16 lbs in such a SHORT period of time. Not sure if that's good or bad ......

Naomi

Did she voluntarily choose to go, or did you as a parent send her? I've heard lots of bad things about those boot camps. Here in Arizona a boy died at one and it caused a big uproar. He dehydrated and suffered heat stroke, ending up trying to cool off in a bathtub and drowned. Sad story. I don't think kids should be put in extreme conditions like that. It's one thing if you're in the military preparing for war conditions... but I don't see why a child should have to endure that. I feel sorry for them. I'd love to send her a note - you can email me her address. Can you send care packages (like with snacks or a book) or can they only get mail?

Hmmmm. Teraberry I wish you had not said that. Airslady has enough to worry about. I think the decision to send Amber to boot camp was not made without a lot of heartache and forthought.
(((((Airslady))))) ((((((Amber)))))))) It is my hope that you and your daughter will come through this in much better shape and looking forward to a future with positive good things including a better relationship between you 2.

I'm sorry - I could've been more sensitive to the fact that it's a hard time. I hope you will just see my concern as being for your DD. I know God could make it work for her good. I pray he does that for her.

I really would like to send her a note of encouragement. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

teraberry i inderstand your concern believe me I wish it could have been another way but Amber did however choose to do this she knew she wasn't getting anywhere and she had many many issues in her life to conquer she was on probation and was told if she got in any more trouble she was forcefully going somewhere by the judge when Amber got kicked out of school for the fourth time she realized UHOH Im in big trouble so she voluntered to do this Boot Camp I of course have no regrets in hoping that she did this we where growing further apart not only as a mother/daughter but as human beings we couldn't get throutgh a single day without arguing and such I belive this is much needed...As far as care packages she can only recieve certain things....NO Food,Drinks,Candy Gum,etc,,,,the only thing she can recieve is personal hygeine Products which has to be alcohol free, razors, shaving gel not cream, lotion, sunblock, shamppoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush.stationary, pens(black only) stamps, envelopes, calling card and of course female hygeine products thats it...I be glad to send you her address if you want to send her a note Thanks
